New ship Suggestion for Behemoth variant.

Axia finally responds to the increasing violence and convoy raids. Learning from the Serco Prometheus, they have replace the giant cargohold of the Behemoth with retrofitted frigate engine. and added armor. The result? A more maneuverable gunboat designed to be operated by a minimum of two persons for the purpose of providing convoy cover by suppressive firepower.

Axia Behemoth Gunboat
Armor: 21000 (Same as Sky Command)
Cargo: 48 cu (Same as Centaur)
Weapons: 2L 1S 3T(Guns of a centaur, turrets of a Moth)
Mass: 31000 kg (Heavier than an empty Moth due to added hardware)
Thrust: 550 N (bit more than Prometheus due to extra weight)
Turbo Thrust: 1100 N (More than a Moth)
Spin Torque: 20 Nm (Better than Moths)
Max Speed: 60 m/s (Slower than moths, made up for with faster boost)
Turbo Speed: 200 m/s (Needs top be able to catch up with convoy if it had to stop and fight)
Turbo Energy: 55 m/s ( Has to be able to stay with the convoy, so I would prefer 50 m/s but doesn't make much sense, a larger boost would drain the battery more? Unless its using special axia capacitors or something.)

The numbers would need to be played with. Basically looking for something that handles similar to a maneuverability of stock centaur and would be useful enough that it is more beneficial than say... two vultures or a warthog and a vulture providing cover.

Man, nobody has ever suggested this obviously uber-cool idea before! Welcome to VO, keep up the great thinking!!
Aug 27, 2012 tarenty link
It's a trade ship, not a war ship or escort.

And clearly there is no precedent for trade ships being modified for combat, ever... in VO or RL.

Please read the suggestion, ryan. A moth with 200m/s turbo speed is not a moth, not a variant. He's proposing an entirely new ship, not merely an altered version. The changes are far too different from what's there for that.

Please read my reply, Nahin... before implying that I didn't read the suggestion. Nowhere did I agree with anything he said... I merely suggested that your suggestion about this suggestion is without merit.

I made no suggestion about his suggestion, merely an observation about the ship in question.

Squabble aside, -1 to battlemoths. On a related topic, fix the Aeolus moth!

"fix the Aeolus moth!"
+1

However, there really isn't anything wrong with a combat oriented moth... just "balance" it with crap armor and other flaws.

Well my idea came from WW2 where they modified some cruise ships and fishing boats for war. Also in the middle eastern wars and african wars where busses, pickup trucks and the such are modified.

Another scifi example was st@rwors, the korellian-corvette was a luxury liner.

whatever... cut down the turbo to 190 then... just need to be able to catch up with the regular moth convoy.

Two questions...

1. Are you not familiar with sarcasm?
and
2. Do you intentionally misspell simple words?

No.
Yes.
wut?
yes and yes.

Alloh must be having moist panties over the fact that someone else is all over his 'pocket battlemoth' idea.

"Well my idea came from WW2 where they modified some cruise ships and fishing boats for war. Also in the middle eastern wars and african wars where busses, pickup trucks and the such are modified."

The behemoth already is that, or did you not see the two large weapon ports and three turrets?

How effective do you think an armored bus is against a tank? Not as effective as a standard Behemoth is against any ship, especially if the moth is fully manned. Give the moth two swarm tubes, a pair of conc turrets, and either a gem or gat turret, and I bet even a prom would have trouble.

So I just don't see the point in militarizing civilian ships, since they already are militarized, and anybody who wants to can buy real combat ships. For the equivalent of $0.50.

The people have spoken. Lets lock this thread :)
Anyone want to try a moth in the next nation war?
Aug 29, 2012 ryan reign link
I don't think it would work out so well in Nation War... but, if someone wants to pilot it and I'm around... I'll man a turret.

Only +1000 armor from the standard 20000? The NPC Behemoth Heavies have like 40000.
Aug 31, 2012 redotter link
Would be ridiculously overpowered. Regardless, the people have spoken it seems. No battlemoth.
:'(
Now if you could fire rear turrets and drop shootable explodeable cargo....

Heh, the NPC Behemoth Heavies are also packing dual capital gauss in their L-ports. Those are some bad mama jamas.
