Manufacturable turrets

Pretty simply idea. A mission that lets you manufacture turrets, and you could carry them as cargo and drop them where you please.
This would have a massive impact on the verse - different people could set up turrets where ever they want, allowing them to control that sector. A pirate could put them in Latos H2, and have it fire on passing traders. Nationalists could use it to blockade enemy wormholes, or to restrict enemy trader. Maybe slip into enemy space special forces style and drop it in an ion storm. What do you guys think?

This is definitely planned for the long-run, in terms of conquerable sectors and player-owned stations.

It was not something I had really considered dropping into the current game, but I guess it's possible.

Feedback welcome.

Well, lmines are already sorta like that now that they persist.

I meant like the turrets you see in nation space

If your looking to use manufactured turrets to control a wh or station sector, I think this is not going to work simply because of the investment required for VO manufacturing and the relative ease of losing a turret (based on current conq station turret difficulty levels).

The effort simply would not be worth the potential reward. If they were guaranteed like the tridents, then this scenario is slightly more plausible, but I still think the effort / reward ratio begs against this.

For player owned stations, it makes perfect sense. I've even heard people speculating about being able to build or buy different types of turrets for defense.

Death, manufacturing turrets would be pretty easy. They shouldn't be like TU mines, maybe a bit harder than getting a neutron mk3. Also, its true that it is easy to loose a turret, but that doesn't suddenly mean that turrets would be uesful. Also, I'm pretty people would mass produce them, so that would make a bit harder to clear a sector of turrets. Not to mention players would defend them.

Not if they're as easy to kill as conq station turrets. One swarm rag can kill one way before you can repair it.

I say turrets should be either a purchasable item or guaranteed. Otherwise, in the distant future the time, resource and effort required by our eventual station owners- of which I'm not really seeing much point tbh- would be prohibitive in that it simply begs to be exploited by any enemy with a few minutes to spare a day.

Lmining a sector is far more practical for control of a sector. The only thing that would make them better would be for the owners to be able to assign the mines to either target specific groups and individuals or to not target them.

I'm not going to argue the difficulty of something that does not exist. I simply think your expectations, while the direction I'd like to see the game go, are a bit optimistic in this case.

Maybe manufacturable turrets would have more health?

Nah, we just need a NeutMine to drop.

a neutmine with a range of 4000m would be nice

Only if I get a Trident-mounted beam cannon that fires from 5000m away. :P

The range on capgauss is already crazy, and its only ~2400m...

In all the sci-fi boxed games I've played over the years, beam weapon armed mines could be devastating, but didn't have the lifespan of contact (i.e. explosive) mines. I'd say shorten the lifespan to 450 seconds (1/2 that of contact mines), and you're good. Would still be a game changer though.

Next up would be we should start getting various minesweeper tech installed.

It's not even remotely realistic that mines would be developed without any counter measures.

We don't need minesweeping tech. We have infinite ammo energy weapons. All we are lacking is a proper way to target the mines (yes, I know, plugins yadda yadda).

Maybe a rocket that with a 30m proximity detonation, and shoots a 100m pulse that disables all mines?
Also, I'd rather have permanent turrets than beam weapons that don't live long. That way you don't have to keep laying mines.
