The targeting window for the Capital Cannon is too narrow and needs to have as close to a 180 degree range of fire as possible.

And look at all the "auto targeting" carebears.

I said nothing about auto targeting. Only it's usefulness.

Is this another suggestion to try and address the problem that Trident turrets can't aim anywhere useful?

I withdraw this suggestion. After testing the cannon with a guildmate tonight, I think the target cone is fine. Prior to tonights effort, I was not able to see my trident via the turret so had a distorted frame of refernce which led me to believe the cone was too narrow.

I still agree with ARF's proposal though.
