Ore, what do alts have to do with spam? You have still failed to explain this. Until you stop dodging the question and explain how limiting alts limits spam, the default assumption will continue to be that you're just making stuff up.

@tightpants: One reason you might need additional alts is because there are multiple ways to play the game (I don't just mean factions). This is particularly important if you care about staying true to your characters' personalities.

Thats a minor complaint to the other issues that you're skirting though Rin. Anyway this is Kenny's thread. I didn't resurrect it, he did. I'm for REDUCING down to 3 undeleteable alts per premium account. You want more? Pay GS more money.

Maybe full price is a little much per alt so an alternative to eliminating the slots... Maybe keep the slots at half price per slot with a reduced number of slots. Additional 99 cents per month opens up two slots on a light or free account and an additional $5 per month opens up a full slot on a full account.

We'd see more people dedicated to one or two alts while increasing revenue. The alts add value to the gaming experience and should add revenue to the developers.

That is a fair use for an alt and with 3 slots that is possible. My point is that if you are playing enough that you are using 5 alts then the devs should be making more money to invest back into improving the game. I see a lot of complaints about game play or this or that that need to be improved and with only 4 devs working on the game it makes for slow improvements. Additional revenue from long time/frequent players would help give them the ability to hire an additional programmer or whatever they need to help improve the game on a faster cycle.

What I love about this game is that it is truly cross platform which any good game should be. If you really spend that much time and love playing you should want game play improved as well. That doesn't happen when you can play 5 different characters on one account.

I know there are players who have 3 premium accounts and bravo to them for making that investment in the game.

@Ore: I am not denying that spam exists. What I'm doing is asking how reducing the number of alts is supposed to reduce spam, which you have consistently refused to explain.

@capt.tightpants: Maintaining multiple distinct personas does not necessarily imply spending more time in game than anybody else. If two people play the same amount per week, why should one of them be charged more just because he would rather spread his time across more characters than somebody else?

For the record though, I'm fine with limiting the number of alts that free and lite subs have. Just not the full sub. Full subscribers are not the people who need to be milked; we've already committed and are supporting the game. What is needed are more full subs, and better monetization of the 80% or so who are not full-subbed.

That fact that you feel that is nerfing says to me you have found a loophole/workaround allowing you to exploit alt accounts for an advantage

In video gaming, a nerf is a change to a game that makes something less effective or desirable. You're suggesting to make premium accounts less desireable so they only have HALF as many character slots as they have for like... a decade. How about you justify why your suggestion to reduce the value of my $10/mo subscription is so important?

I've got a Serco pirate character who pirates people and a Serco border war character who fights in the border skirmishes. These are two distinct aspects of gameplay. Really the only advantage to this is you don't have to spend 15 minutes to fly across the galaxy in order to play the game with other players.

I have four paid accounts and almost each of them have 6 unique characters with their own RP as the game WAS DESIGNED FOR.

So WHY IN HELL A PISS POOR BUNCH OF MORONS should prevent me from playing the game as it supposed to be played.

1 character. 1 account. do you need someone to spell out for everyone what is obvious to anyone playing the game.

A. the person uses multiple characters when it suits them to further a given goal in the game. Like manufacturing. Sometimes it benefits them to be uit, sometimes itani. Sometimes serco (though i doubt that ). Once they have completed their task they transfer what they've done to the account they want to really progress.

B. the person uses multiple characters in subterfuge.Utilizing the idiotic mechanisms allowed by the developers to pipe chat via scripts through irc and back to players allowing enhanced monitoring and tracking.

C. The person uses multiple accounts for both of the above reasons. The idea that someone legitimately plays as multiple "characters" is ridiculous. People identify with one character and one mindset and any deviation is done solely to benefit that primary character or multiple characters so that the player is dominant in any of the available races.

There is no non-nefarious reason to have multiple simultaneous character slots outside of the initial learning period. Pretending there is just makes you look like a liar.
