Ship Spoofer

Make an addon like a mine launcher that drops a "radar disarrayer" which causes all asteroids within 3000m to appear the same as you on the sector list.

Hahaha +1!

+1, bonus points if it randomizes nation and names them all with bot generator names.

(forgot to mention)...

...same as you on the sector list [and on radar].

A sector will fill up with them quick, thus no fighting. Funny idea but best suited for escape artists.

What do you mean "no fighting?" This device would be no more than an inconvenience. You'd just have to visually locate your enemy and then use the target-in-front button to get the targeting lock. And if they can already see you when you deploy the device (or if they see the animation when you jump in) then that's no inconvenience at all.

As for sectors filling up... how often do you see a sector filled up with l-mines?

How about a ship-spoofer that just displays a different ship name than what you're actually flying in the sector log?

So if you're flying a Moth with a spoofer, it'll show up in the list as a Vulture or a Warthog

This way it won't fill up the sector at all, is easily counterable (just do a visual check), but if a trader/miner has an empty slot, this gives them a chance at sneaking through sectors without attracting attention

My guess is it would be tough to implement, but I could be wrong about that!

Ya, it should reflect that they are flying a hippo.

And yes, I'm still bitter about not being able to trick new ppl into displaying hippos anymore.

+1 for smittens' idea, that sounds like a really fun and cool implementation of a 'ship spoofer'

I would like smitten's idea, if the spoofer was limited to spoofing a larger ship than what you are currently flying. You can make a moth spoof a trident, but you can not make a moth spoof a taur.

Interesting twist. For the sake of realism, with the implication that sensors are detecting physical characteristics (size/power output) that could only "deceive in one direction"?

I think gameplay wise it's better without a size-based restriction... every moth showing up as a trident kinda defeats the point.
