A few assorted suggestions...

Jun 03, 2015 Grog5 link
‘Hola! I've got a few suggestions here, so take a bit of time to ponder them. If this post is in the wrong place, feel free to move it or whatever... Sorry about that 😊

So, here we go:

Star Trek style shields (only "equipable" in large ports),

Larger light cells that last for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages...

Home bases for each player, so that it's easier to find friends (as you can arrange a place to meet). Only invited players can enter your personal home base.

I know this has been said before, but if volume of players requesting this counts for anything, I feel that I need to chip in; BIGGER STUFF!!!!! Not just weapons, but light cells, ships, cargo holds, stations, asteroids... Not everything, but most things, need to be "bigged" up and made better/more effective...

And possibly (based on how viable this would be) development for Windows Phone. Obviously, it would have to be a non-HD-little-less-resource-straining version, but it might be worth thinking about.

Thanks a bunch πŸ˜‰

It's usually better to post separate suggestions in separate threads, so that the discussion doesn't become muddled.

I want to voice extreme opposition to the idea of a location that only invited people may enter. That goes completely against the ethos of this game. This is the sort of game where nowhere is truly safe by design. That said, something kind of like what you ask for exists already: conquerable stations. They're defended by powerful turrets that attack anybody who you haven't given an access key to. However, that doesn't prevent people from trying to invade the location and cause trouble anyway, and the conquerable stations can be conquered by enemy players (go figure!). I expect that the difficulty in conquering them will eventually increase (probably by way of purchasable or craftable upgrades to the station defenses), but they'll never be magically safe. And that is a good thing.

Star trek like sheilds are available on capitol ships. You can build a trident type M if you like the idea of a shielded ship. There is also a turret addon for turreted ships like the behemoth and the atlas that shoot a shield burst when you enter your turret and fire it. I never tried it though. Not sure how it works.

Btw, if everything gets "bigged" up, then the changes will not have any effect and will not make a difference. Just pretend they doubled everything just for you today ;)

Welcome to VO :)

On the topic of bigness, the devs do plan to make bigger stations eventually, and that's fine. I do disagree with making bigger ships. Things aren't huge compared to some other science-fiction settings, but you have to remember that this is a game where fighters are supposed to remain very relevant. They are not relevant when people fly around in moon-sized ships, unless your moon-sized ship was engineered by a movie director instead of somebody actually competent. So, it's unlikely for Vendetta's ships to get much bigger than they are now.

All valid points. I would like any staff that are considering my original points to take into account all of these previous comments.

As regards shields and bigger ships, how is a capitol ship acquired? I presume that by their very nature, they belong to the capitol, so how does their possession of shields help me? Because that still means that I don't have shields... Interesting point about the behemoth 😊

Bigger ships? Ok, ignore my point. I wasn't aware that such large ships were available! πŸ˜„

And I hadn't considered the pirate/outlaw aspect of the game. However, I think there should be an easier way to meet up with friends. I spent 10 minutes this morning, just trying to find somebody. And that's when we both knew where each other was, and agreed a meeting place near a station. 10 MINUTES! Just flying around trying to see him. 😞 It got boring after 2 minutes. There should be a fix to this that is compliant with the 'ethos' of the game.

Thanks for voicing all of your ideas everybody 😊 This is how great games are built. Continue with the improvements, and things will carry on for many years to come.

The "capital" in "capital ship" does not actually have anything to do with the Capitol. In real life, a capital ship is an informal designation for a ship of great importance, such that if you destroy all of a navy's capital ships, you have probably toppled that navy. Within the context of Vendetta Online, "capital ship" is used to refer to the class of ships that have shields, are significantly larger than the fighter and cargo ships, and often have docking bays (only exception being the Teradon).

As for obtaining one, currently you can do manufacturing missions in Greyspace to build your own Trident Light Frigate (note that this takes probably a couple months of effort unless you get a lot of help). The larger capital ships are currently inaccessible to players, as the developers are still fleshing out the assets and mechanics that are required for players to use them in enjoyable ways.

As for meeting up with friends, I don't see the problem. If you're far away, it should take a while to meet up, and travel times do decrease when you use a decent traveling ship, such as the Warthog MkII equipped with a Fast Charge powercell.

edit: Pizzasgood beat me to it

It's actually "capital" ship, as in 'the most important ship in a fleet without which the rest of the fleet could not operate' (Wikipedia). The Trident Type-M allows allies to repair and rearm continuously during a sector conflict, allowing them to easily defeat an opposing force of equal size and tactical skill without a Type-M, so it currently fits this definition. Other Trident types are scheduled to be obtainable by players, but currently are not.

Above the Tridents are Teradons, which are not currently player-operable and have no docking bays. These have four large guns which are used to take out other big ships.

Larger than these are the Constellation Heavy Transport and the Heavy Assault Cruiser, which are not currently player-owned but can be docked with.

If you want to see some capital ships in action you should attain Combat license 3, after which you will be able to join either the Serco or Itani military and take part in Deneb warfare.

To build a Trident Type-M you must have Combat license 5 and access to the conquerable stations, at which point you will be able to begin manufacturing and assembling components from harvested materials (start collecting Synthetic Silksteel now to get a head start). It will be very useful to work with others on this. You may also be able to turn a profit by figuring out what people that are building Tridents need, and selling them materials (have a good stockpile first).

Larger light cells that last for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages...

You can get one High Drain Power Cell by completing Advanced Combat Training II. It has 45 generation and 500 capacity at a cost of 10 grid power. It is a world ahead of the Light Power Cell, but you only get one to start. Obtaining more may be expensive, so be careful with it.

development for Windows Phone.

Vendetta already runs on some Windows phones, I believe. I'm not all up to date and savvy on the differences between WinRT, Windows 8, and Windows 10, but Guild is definitely breaking in to that market.

We think of the Trident as a capital ship probably because it's the biggest one we can currently get. When the HAC and connie are available to us the trident will probably be thought of as a 'ship of the line', if we stick with old navy terms.

Thanks guys. That info's very helpful. And I'm certain that VO is NOT available for WP. For one thing, WP is not listed on the home of VO.com. And it's not in the WP store.

As for the differences:

Win RT is for tablets, mainly. It's basically the official touch version or win 8 and 8.1. I'mfairly sure if you put the full version of Windows 8/8.1 on a tablet, it would still work...

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_RT

Windows Phone is for, well, phones...

Windows 8 and 8.1 are virtually the same thing as each other. Originally designed for touch, but some idiots had the brainwave of putting it on laptops and desktops. They're just newer, crappier versions of Windows 7 (which is quite obviously the best OS ever. And Windows 10 (I've got the preview on my desktop) is back to the classic Windows look. Its possibly better than 7, but not quite yet! πŸ˜‰

I can't be sure if you're whining about travel times (see suggestion for a Hog Mk II and a Fast Charge power cell, above) or about inability to find someone in the same area as you (explore the /group command, which will allow you to target fellow group members anywhere in the sector and home in on eachother).
Jun 07, 2015 Grog5 link
Nah even in a Revenant, travel times don't bother me.

But with so much space in each sector (even in the comparatively small space around the station - as in a radius...) it's hard to see little ships unless you are right next to them. It's not surprising I couldn't see my friend's ship, it's a little EC-89 I think, but for him not to see a fairly big Revenant... I ended up sitting on one of the panels on the station so I'd be easier to spot. It still was ages 'till he found me. And what I would call the top of the station, he calls the bottom of the station!!!! Weird.

So there should be some kind of provision(s) to make it easier to find people.

You can use the /group command (type it in chat for info) to make finding each other more easy, just like lolector said.

And phaserlight, it is not available for windows phone, didn't we already have that discussion? It only runs on Windows devices that could in effect, run a full version of Windows.

[Edit]

You are correct that the game doesn't run on Windows phones, but it is planned at some point, see http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/2/29645#356804

Grog5: We have that. It's called the "Sector List". I don't recall the simplest way to pull it up on mobile devices, but on a PC you just press the "u" key. This will display a list of all ships within radar range, and you can click on them to set them as your current target. Then you exit the PDA and just fly toward the target; easy.

What Yoda and Dr. Lecter are talking about with the /group command improves upon the above, at the cost of more typing (not a big deal on PC, slightly more annoying on mobile -- but tab-complete is your friend). All members of the same group show up as white dots, and they can see each other on the radar even when outside of radar range or obscured by objects like asteroids that normally block radar.
Jun 07, 2015 Grog5 link
Yeah, I don't how to access the sector list. (I'll Google it XD)

New point:
There should be an in-site management of things like buddies, groups, anything that isn't technically 'gameplay' or gameplay related... So for example, you would be able to switch active ships or buy and sell commodities... Because those are gameplay related, they're what you do in-game. However, "buddies, groups, anything that isn't technically 'gameplay' or gameplay related..." is more closely related to account/profile things.
If this would not be possible, there should be a UI for the game to more easily manage things like this. I was reading about guilds, and how you make one and manage it and so on(...) and I thought, "bloody hell this is complicated". Managing stuff like this through a text-based interface is ludicrous.

=) Thanks for the interesting discussion guys. This is proving both promising and helpful ;-)

EDIT: Don't think that worked πŸ˜†
