Prom rebalancing proposal

Very cool of you, doesn't change my mind on what I'm talking about with its ******STATS*******

Neat, but stats are no guarantee that the content is actually balanced.

For instance, a long, thin ship (shaped like a rod) will handle much more poorly than one that's shaped like a sphere, even if they have identical "stats".

This is because the game accurately simulates an even distribution of mass through the collision hull of the object.

The size and shape of the collision hull are not things that can be compared 1:1 as "stats".

The Valk and the Prom have been through crushing rounds of play-tested balance testing, which far from being "hearsay" is actually the only really meaningful way to compare anything.

It would be easier to just say "X must be better than Y, because Stats!@#!", but everything "interesting" doesn't work like that. Like dinky little Lotus and Porsche racecars beating out big ground-pounding Detroit Irons in the 60s and 70s, because they could brake later, and handle better in turns, despite having no horsepower or top-speed in a straightaway.

None of this is intended to dissuade you from making your Suggestion, or continuing to argue this issue, or others. Just that you need to understand this is not something that can be determined solely with a spreadsheet.

But I also do not want to rely on skill based use of the prom and x1, because no two players are the same. Is why I was saying it

The prom is easier to hit from its sides, and getting on its sides is alot easier said then done. Especially mid pew. Shape wise the prom has a very strong position with being a stick shape, as long as it's facing you it's giving you the smallest amount of chance to hit it. While the Valk is alot more fat on its sides, allowing it to be easier to hit no matter how it faces.

I will say the SCP is the best ship in the game at close combat, I will also say every top tier ship can out run it to keep it's distance making it useless except for defending a position in a 1v1 scenario like at the end of station conquer or a duel. Due to it's low turning speed and spread of it's ports traditional blasters don't work well with it meaning you are crippling the ship unless you equip a gat. And since you have to equip a gat that means your mid/long distance fighting is nil which brings us back to how every top tier ship can keep it's distance.

I'd like to edit my previous statement in regards to 1v1ing or in duels as it's not good for that unless you are against another Scp as other ships can just keep their distance. It's really only useful for holding a bit if territory. Maybe we should change this to a buff prom topic?

The prom is not the best ship in the game.. but it is one of them.

A pilot of equal practice and skill can use the advantages of an X1 and beat an equally skilled pilot in a skyprom.

Agreed I just don't see any cause to change anything to the prom or the X1. The two ships have really great foils to each other.

My biggest sticking point is that the prom has nearly x2 the armor then an x1. I think the listed changes OP is proposing as other said will just turn the prom into a fat ship with 2 ports. That will just be as others said a mimic of the warhog.

I know it's bad to talk about "feelings" But I really don't "FEEL" the prom is overpowered compared to the x1 and vice versa. One is a lighter more compact fighter. The other is a heaver (just as compact) gunship. With more armor reduces agility and less armor increases agility.

Both ships excel at their own respects. Namely the prom being used to flare down other lighter armored ships. And the X1 to intercept and outmaneuver heaver armored and armed ships.

I still find it hard to convince my self a change needs to happen to the prom or x1. The armor difference between the two ships really is my sticking point. More armor is not going to balance the ship better.
