Faction Penalty Standards

Mar 21, 2022 greenwall link
It appears that killing NPCs in monitored UIT with Respect and below UIT standing garners no penalty, but killing a Player with equivalent standing does. This seems irrational, inconsistent, and somewhat immersion breaking. I'm not sure if this is the same in other monitored spaces, but if it is this suggestion should apply to all.

Proposal:

Faction loss penalties based upon monitored standing of a killed ship in shouldn't differ between NPC and Players targets. In other words, the same rules (penalties or no) should apply regardless of whether or not the target is an NPC or Player, and should solely be based upon the standing of the killed ship.

+1 Would be easier to explain to new players.

-1 NPCs have differences from players and we should let it remain that way. And from an RP perspective, I don't see why the UIT, which doesn't receive much from the subcorps except TPG, would be affected by their ships getting killed.

I have no problem with assigning the same penalty system that NPCs have to players.

Sid, if a UIT kills a serco/itani in monitored UIT space, they lose UIT standing. How do Serco/Itani players have higher protection than members of the UIT? (RP or otherwise).

If you kill a UIT npc convoy in UIT monitored space you will get tkos & a hit on faction standings. Only ones you can kill in UIT monitored space are from subfactions. If you kill a subfaction npc in a sector guarded by that subfaction, you loose standings. So really doesn't makes sense to get us a faction penalty when a subfaction npc is killed in a nation's monitored space.

Same applies for serco & itani space.

Some thoughts as we debate this:

A) Why should a Serco lose standing for killing Itani/Uit in Serco space. Or an Itani lose standing for killing a Serco/Uit in Itani space or a Uit lose standing for Killing a Serco/Itani in Uit space?

B) if a sub faction is a member of the UIT, shouldn't some kind of additional protection be offered for being a member? Some kind of mutual defense pact?

C) it is kind of outside of the scope of this suggestion, but it kind of bizarre that players a join as members of the Uit and not as some Corp member. But as a member of the Uit, players should have some sort of obligation to uphold the safety the Uit, and killing subtraction members might be treated expecially harshly.

I did a minor edit. Please focus your comments on the suggestion, not the people.

So We all float, you're suggesting that killing TPG, Orion, Valent, Axia and Biocom voys in monitored space has factional repurcussions, while killing Xang Xi, Aeolus, Ineubis or Tunguska voys doesn't? And with who exactly? If I kill a an Axia moth in UIT space, does my standing tank with UIT, Axia or Itani (since standings and voy movements show a link between Axia and Itani) or a combination of the three?

This is not currently the case.

And with who exactly?

If it was implemented, with UIT. And probably the subfaction involved as well. As it occurred in monitored space, UIT would inform the subfaction that on their members was killed and who the killer is. Those subfactions are members of the UIT, so they would be a protected class of peoples.

I agree the UIT subfraction npc's should incur a rep hit with UIT We All Float explained it well. This I think really blends UIT to almost be one nation if this change is implemented. This should push people to farm convoys in greyspace for the most part. And we might see some farming in Itani/Serco space now due to this change. We should also be mindful some UIT sub faction groups do have Itani/Serco rep and they will incur a penalty if a player kills them in Itani/Serco space just as a player would.

Us players in VO are simply pilots like the NPCs we have no indication on how we are special in any way except for training we received and years of skill. Why would NPCs be treated differently in reporting these crimes to the government?

Beyond that I can see how this suggestion fixes a continuity issue here and streamlines mechanics. NPC's influence your rep based on the rep the ship has. UIT subfraction ships as WAF said would influence UIT standing and the standing of their faction.

And what if I kill a non-UIT subfaction ship in UIT. Say a Xang Xi. Will my standing tank? According to what you're suggesting.
Mar 24, 2022 death456 link
Depends on if Xang Xi has UIT standings. I would have to look but if a Xang Xi behemoth has 0 UIT standings it would not affect UIT rep at all. But if Xang Xi has for example +200 TPG You would take a TPG rep hit if it died in TPG space. So on and so forth. This is what OP aimed for is to streamline rep hit between NPCs and players.
Mar 24, 2022 Sid123 link
I can live with that tbh. While UIT space is more active in terms of sheer mass of voys, most of them are just Valent voys with crap drops. So if you're farming for drops, grey and UIT are pretty much the same, but if you're making a hulkyard then your suggestion makes it much harder.

Also, Question: If someone kills a UIT Admired and Serco Neutral player in Serco space, does their standing with UIT reduce?
Mar 25, 2022 death456 link
So if player X has UIT admire and serco neutral and this person dies in serco space the killer gets no rep hit due to his neutral serco rep. UIT rep will not take a hit. OP is suggesting we streamline this for NPCs Were rep hit is based on the ship dies and what rep that ship carries with the nation. It's a simple suggestion that could push people to grey space.

NPC's and players should carry the same rep hit power if killed in nation space as OP suggests.

Well if we're putting NPCs in the same rules as players, why give them capcannons when they apparently only have a heavy powercell equipped? Make the Behemoth Heavy Powercell droppable too, as wel as the Capital Gatling Turret. Tradeoffs.
