Capship hacking addon

An addon which enables someone to hack into another player's capship.

Stats:
Mass: 1000kg
Grid: 18
Range: 500m
Port: Large

Conditions for hacking to work:

1. Target capship must be deshielded
2. Hacker must stay within 500m of the target capship while the hacking is in progress. Going out of range will make the hacking process abort and start again from 0.
3. The hacking process will take 60 seconds. The hacker must stay within range for this duration.

Results of a successful hack:
The hacker will be able to fly the capship, dock in it, get free reps/reloads, overstuff it, etc like the owner can.

The owners ships stored inside the capship will be deleted if the hack is completed, to prevent ship trading.

The key to the capship given by the real owner will be greyed out, similar to what happens with station keys. The hacker will not be able to give keys to the capship.

The capship will not take commands. It can only be piloted.

The hacker will not be able to take an insurance mission and get the ship back if the ship is killed/hacked. The real owner will also be blocked from the insurance mission until the capship is killed. This is to prevent players giving capships to their alts without working to build one or buying another sub.

The hacking addon would be available to purchase and use for all players, regardless of standings, licences and subscription levels, in Latos M7 for 1 million credits and 10 crystals (where applicable). It could also be made a manufactured item.

60 seconds on a fresh alt for potentially permanently blocking someone from ever flying a capship of that type again? Nah. While the EVE player in me does like the idea of stealing ships, mechanics in VO that prevent you from building another one make it a really bad idea.

Inc has already stated in the past that something like this might be implemented in the future.

"Capships may also become more vulnerable in certain ways, such as "boarding parties" and the ability to take a capship as a Prize, instead of simply destroying it.

I will state, that if something like this suggestion is implemented, then I might be tempted to rent out my capship to a trusted pilot using this hacking system. Because of that, there will need to be someway of mitigating my rental plans.

That's a valid point. We have no dirth of greifers who would like to capture a capship on an alt, leave it in an empty sector and never log on to that alt again. I have two suggested mechanisms to combat this:
a) A captured capship resets back to the original owner after a set period of wall clock time. Say 36 hours.
b) A captured capship can not be docked in a station. It will also not despawn in about 10 mins after the hacker logs off, like it would with its owner. Instead, it stays in space.

Both these systems could be implemented. I think the second should be there anyway, while the first would be a solution to the issue described by Snib.

I will state, that if something like this suggestion is implemented, then I might be tempted to rent out my capship to a trusted pilot using this hacking system. Because of that, there will need to be someway of mitigating my rental plans.

I don't see why this rent-a-capship idea should be mitigated at all. A new trade item on the player market.

Have you considered how easy your addon would make this process? Compared to DeathSpores's 2021 version of this idea, yours is easy mode. I'll explain farther: keep in mind that pcbs already force you to be within 500m due to their limit range. This addon being LP means another capship will be able to pcb you, deshield you and hack you all within 90 seconds. There will be people flying around and hacking capships just to /explode them after words, since there will be no defence to it.

How are you going to mitigate these issues?

Well then I guess it can be small port. I said large port because because then people wouldn't be able to do it in really light ships, making it a bit tougher.

actually its good idea for big capships like teradon etc, but must be hard to do: destroy all turrets, kill all convoys and ofc deshield, also if big ship cant dock to station it must have ability to change it addons. you can conrol only 1 captured capship, no insurance, etc. if ship dont have dock port you can enter it if your ship in 200m range from big, after enterin it small ship explode, 30 sec for enter, if out you just respawn in your home station

Making it for NPC capships would basically mean everyone can have a dent. The lack of insurance would make zero difference because you can find an NPC dent in less than 5 minutes of waiting in an active sector like Dau O6. Massively undervalues the effort put in by people who manufactured their dent.
It would also fuck up the entire game if people started flying around in HACs, Connies and Capellas.

True thats not that gud idea, analog here is add small capship, around goli size, for combat only, with many weps and turrets, no dock, I guess 100cu cargo.
Also capturing player capships only open new ways for rats to annoy players, make it possible to block your capship which was builded in 2-3 months by your hands etc

This is not reasonable. Players shouldn't be able to take other's ships in any amount of time imo. If you want a Capship build one.

Hacking a cap ship? It is already sooo easy for players to deshield a and destroy a cappie. Whats the real point? To keep said player from using a cappie? Kinda counter productive to the whole Vendetta game I think. It keeps conflicts from happening by stealing players cappies and the player quits or gets bored and stops playing. -1 this idea might be ok for npc's but again caps are easy to pop.

Did you read the entire thread, or even the OP? Or did you just comment after reading the title and glancing through the suggestion?

The comments at the beginning of the thread (which isn't really far; just scroll about 3 inches upwards) addressed the concern of a capship being blocked forever. Please read the OP, and the ensuing conversation, before commenting.

Capships are easy to kill, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be something else to do against them. A more lasting punishment for not taking care of your capship. I think 36 hours without your capship is reasonable, or even desirable. Let the capship addicts pilot a small ship for a bit.

Um, just no...

Expect a player to pay a sub, and spend all the time, effort, and credits to build one and you wanna make it so it can be stolen, hijacked, or more easily destroyed than it already is? That is rediculous. If i want to fly a light ship I'll do it. No help from anyone being malicious needed...

Currently, if you leave your capship undocked and go afk, or leave it lying around somewhere while you're running errands, the repurcussions are low. At most it dies and you can buy one again for 500k. Including even the most expensive turrets it goes to 2.5 mil for a dent and 1.5 mil for a goli. Losing your capship for 36 hours or having to hunt it back down is a much better "punishment" for negligence.

You never mentioned in your OP that this addon could only be used on unattended capships.

The repercussions are never intended to be super high in VO. The devs made ships cheap so people will pilot them and actually interact in the galaxy. In this same vein, the loss of a capital ship should not be so painful as to make owners never undock them. That sounds unfun.

I'll make a new suggestion in the next day or so combining what inc has said, and what was said in the 2021 thread.
