New Idea: The Win Button.

"OMG I cnt believe pirate_x KILLED me when i am just a innocent HAULER i cant take this crap BS I DONT SPEND 10$ A MONTH TO BE PIRATED BY SOME 13YER OLD WHO GETS OFF ON RUNING OTHER PEOPLES FUN he should be BANNED!!!@@!@@@!!1"

You guys might not have the above problem yet, but once this game goes public, all kinds of lamers will flock here, die, and then whine all over your precious message boards. It's going to happen... it happens in every MMORPG.

So, to please those people, I suggest a radical new way of satisfying them while avoiding 'carebear zones' and other such artificial restrictions on gameplay. I propose a Win Button. or perhaps a /win command.

Once activated, the Win Button will first disconnect the client, then, from the clients perspective, all other ships in the sector will explode into a shower of rainbows and absurdly high price commodities for them to pick up. The client would also notice that his money now reads 999999999, his ship suddenly goes 2000v, and he can never connect to the main server again.

What do you think?

While this could indeed be a problem, the "innocent haulers" have the option of remaining fairly well inside the home space of their nation, where KOS people will be hard pressed to get at them. This game is designed to have PVP inherent in it, tho with care combat can be avoided. People who dont understand that are unlikely to remain for long, and the ignore button is your friend if they are whining in a chat channel. You can also always switch channels, there are lots of numbers to choose from.

On another note: if them damn nOObs keep yellin' and screamin' and such, we the players have 2 choices:

a)Grief 'em
b)Ignore 'em

Although choice a would just provoke more complaining, you can always /ignore after a few kills ;)

Seriously though, every MMORPG i've ever played that allowed for non-consensual PvP turns into a forum complainfest as soon as it goes public. It's sad, but i've seen quite a few game developers remove vital features and add artificial gameplay mechanisms to restrict RP potential, all to please the carebears.

This post was ment as a joke, but in my opinion, bowing down to the carebears is one of the main reasons for failure in a game such as this. I believe that protection from 'griefers', wether they be pirates who you dont agree with, or genuine jackasses whom wish to ruin other peoples fun, should be delt with by the community and not artificial hardcoded mechanisms.

I, for one, have not forgotted the anti-carebear feature... "/vote mute"

I'm writing an alias/bind that automatically casts for:
*All caps in 3 or more words.
*Any word with an "X" where it doesn't belong.
*The expression "you're a(n) __________(with over fifty variation words)
*Anyone that calls FM anything derogatory.
*Anyone that FM says "Don't argue..." to.
*Anyone that uses the word "sucks" in the same sentence as the word "Vendetta" (with or without added "X"s).
*Anyone that says stfu or STFU (thx, Urza!) :-)
*anyone that uses the "F" word...even once.
*Anyone that uses any combinations of !, 1 and one together.
*[still thinking up additions to this list]

trust in the devs

John, andy ray and waylon are not going to let any carebears change their central vision of this game. You arent dealing with a multinational corporation that is pandering to the bottom line. These guys have their heart and soul into this game, They have done things that we in the test community didnt always agree with at the time, but 99% of the time they turned out to be right.

Just remember, there are always a few asshole hard packing mothas who will put the whiners in their place. The law of small animals vs. big animals will come into play. STFU or get hunted and destroyed

Thanks, Urza...

I'm planning on starting a "Traders Guild" as soon as the guild system is up and running.

I just hope there will be group trading missions.

Then carebears can come to the Trade Guild for fighter escorts and convoys. It'll make a good traders vs. pirates war.

I agree that this kind of thing should be solved in-game, not with strict hard-coded rules.
