Some Guild ideas

Just a few thoughts I'd like to kick around about soon-to-be-implemented guilds...

There's gotta be a million and one different ways to implement guilds, and I'm sure the devs have their own plan of attack so this entire post could be redundant, but here's a few ideas I had:

Being part of a Guild means having certain privileges within that guild. One of the most obvious privileges in most games is the right to wear the guild tag ([INM] or [SDF] for example). In Vendetta, since we have a player info screen, the player's Guild could be displayed under that screen, and there wouldn't be a need to have a guild tag attached to the actual name. Some other privileges might include:

*The ability to induct new guild members: the prerequisites for joining a Guild will no doubt be different for each guild, so there would have to be a few higher-ups in each guild that decide whether or not a new player can be admitted. Obviously, not everyone in the guild should have this privilege, only once they have attained a certain rank.

*The ability to promote guild members: it would be cool if the guild leader upon creation of the guild could designate a series of "ranks," each with its own set of specific priveleges. A promoter would have the ability to promote a lesser guild ranking member up to a certain level if he/she had passed certain qualifications. the qualifications could be different for each guild of course: anything from reaching license level 4/4/4/4 to accumulating 10 PKs to earning 1 mil for the guild treasury.

*Access to special ship skins or colors.

*Access to special Guild equipment and ships: more on this later.

*The ability to post official Guild notices: this would be a secretarial privelege and would probably come with the responsibility of keeping minutes of official guild meetings, posting notices of wars between guilds etc.

*The ability to blacklist a player or guild: if a player was designated as K.O.S. by a particular guild, any guild members in the same sector as that player would receive a message under guild chat such as: "Player <x> is a sworn enemy of <guild name>! Engage on sight." A variation on this privelege would be the ability to post a bounty on a player's head. Anyone who killed the player with the bounty in a monitored sector would recieve the designated reward from the guild treasury.

*The ability to access the Guild's treasury: already in some player created guilds there have been characters named things like SDF Bank(Vault) that act as guild treasuries. It would be nice if each guild had its own treasury that all players could contribute to, and some players could disperse funds from. Contributions could come by way of guild dues, or just as mass wealth hoarding ;). Some higher ranking guild members (treasurers) could have access to the treasury and recieve a list of all recent transactions and could also withdraw money from the treasury to disperse in case of a war or crisis.

These priveleges would encourage competition and advancement within a single guild and would add many dimensions to guild play. In most FPSers being part of a guild is just having a guild tag and being able to say "Yay, I'm part of guild <x>." Vendetta could take it a step beyond by having different ranks within a guild that guild members can work toward, and with each rank attained having different priveleges within the guild.

Also to foster competition between guilds there could be a statistics page that kept track of how many kills, PK's, deaths, money, members, successful missions etc. each guild had and what overall rank among guilds in each category the guild was at.

There could also be universe wide events and storylines that guilds competed in. These could come in the form of large scale missions like "The furies have invaded several sectors within each nation, whichever guild kills the most furies by the end of the week wins." Or "Orion wants to take a survey of the Latos system. The first guild to correctly come up with a count of the total number of roids in the system wins. At the end of the week the guild with the closest guess wins."

The prize for winning a guild competition like this could be a special weapon or ship that was made available to the guild, like the "SDF Dragon Plasma Devastator" or the "INM Centurion Comet." The magnitude of the prize of course would be dependant on the scale of the competition, and would probably somehow tie into the storyline.

Those all sound like good ideas:

I particularly like the idea of guilds being able to post bounties that pay out of thier treasury.

You bring up the good point of KOS status with guilds. I would like to see an automated method to identify how people stand with one's guild. Maybe you target them, and the "blacklisted" ones have some message in their info saying "Kill them now!"

I like the idea of a guild bank bot, too, rather than shared funds, so that the cash flow can be controlled and monitored.

Mostly, there needs to be a good mix of automated and player-created guild features. Too strict, and there's no freedom or diversity - too loose, and nothing gets done.

One random question - How do things normally work with multiple guilds? Do most games restrict you to one guild per character, or should someone be allowed to join multiple (non-conflicting) guilds?

I would assume you could only have one guild per character... otherwise what happens when two unconflicting guilds change their alignment toward each other and go to war?

A few more ideas:

Each guild picks a station as their "Guild home station." It is only from this station that special guild equipment and ships can be purchased, and only in this sector that funds from the guild treasury can be dispersed. This would lead to some interesting tactics for picking home stations... a national defense force guild would probably want a station near the border, whereas a trade guild would want a home station toward the center of a nation where traffic was higher. An international guild would probably want to home in an unaligned sector like Latos or Odia. There would be no problem having more than one guild share the same home station as only guild members could access their own guild's equipment/credits from that station. This would also focus guild wars somewhat to particular sectors, which would be very interesting (imagine the INM invading the SDF's home station sector and waging war against both serco pilots and defbots).

The Problem with the Guild using clan tags is that anyone thats not in a guild can easly impersonate or pretend to be in a guild and cause some trouble..

I would not recommend using tags to represent that you are in a guild.

I agree Tilt... see my first post, third paragraph ;)

Most of these ideas seem like variations of EnB guildsand eve corps, I'd also like to expand on these idea's, as i feel guilds in MMORPG's are a fundimental part of the game.

Guild ranks: The guild leader should have access to maybe 4-5 differing rank lvl's, (which he can rename to what he see's fitting perhaps, good RPG wise), each lvl with differing privaledges.

Guild vaults: This is bets implented y maybe saying a guild has to use a set station, this will mean guilds will get bases of operations established. The vault should be able to hold items, ships, and credits which players should be able to add and people of a certain rank (determied by guild leader) can hand out or access.

Guild skins: The ability to have special skins for your guilds ships is always a nice perk, it also brings some uniformity to the guild.

Player locations: Although I like the locations shown in the guild chat, I'd prefer it to be optional, maybe have a guild window (like the nav map) which you can select, which will show, online/offline guild members, their locations (also should be able to use the player stats command on players in the guild window)

Those are a few idea's i have that I feel would be good to implement that are pretty reasonable, I feel it would also be 'very nice(tm)' if guilds can eventually build their own stations and capital ships...but one step at a time :-)
