New Planetary Systems

Mar 09, 2005 spacejammer link
Just as a thought, is there a plan to add in a new set of planets?

By looking at the Universe map, say from Bractus head South for 1 system before heading South-West for 3 more, perhpas even with a WH to Sedina as well.

Then more Westerly to then turn Northwards with 2 more systems, either more elongated to Ukari and a new WH. Or shortened to cinnect with Latos.

Make the systems' color Green, to begin with are aliens and so are hostile at first, being aliens the A.I would have to quite tough. Set a length of time before peace is made and then trade opens up.

Aliens detract from the plot line that hasn't even started yet about there being some sort of huge war between Itani and Serco.

Oh yeah this is way after the Itani/Serco war, after all how long will players continue to fight in the war before it gets routine. Perhaps at this point would be a good time to introduce a 'common enemy'.

I've noticed some have left due to similar issues that being, what next is there to do.

In Horizons, when it was first put out, it too was still in developement, though a bit more along the Guild, I watched my friend fend off his starting city from hords of enemy scum. These hords were server events, scripted so that if the player base did not defend there city the city would fall, and all there plots and player built homes would be destroyed and they could no longer take mission from that city, UNTIL, it was retaken by the player base.

Also, Other similar events accured, on a regular basis (once every week or two), where a part of the territory would expand, and a new foe would be introduced. Again, in a hord and if not feded off, would start to take over surrounding territorys. If they were fought back enough, they would find a new zone altogether that they could explore and populate.

Why I bring that all up is that it would seem to me, if we can't have alien envasions just yet due to the stroyline, perhaps have bi-weekly unscheduled, all out battles between the Itani and Serco forces. Could take place in random border sectors and would be all over the news tabs. If these battles are not intervined by players (randomly) one nation would win either pushing back the Itani into there own territory or the Itani push back the Serco.

Perhaps the Queens decide to go on the offensive and try to take over some of the more heavily defended station zones for the ore contained in the sectors and everyone must defend the station or the queens destroy it and use it for scrap metal. Then players would either need to clean the zone and rebuild or consider that territory lost.

This would be different then the cap ship as that sounds to me, since we have yet to see it in action, to be a static event like the ctc, what I'm proposing is completely random, no one would know when or where it would break out, and should be different each time.

-------------
Aliens-

Personally, I would love to see an alien race added, not as a playable race, but something to fight other then PlayerRaces/Bots. Perhaps have the bots "Evolve" a bit, give them a bit more intellegance. Right now they are simple hive minds, with little ambition.

-------------
Exploration Expansion-

As far as adding in new systems, the devs have talked about doing an exploration expansion that will allow for a new play style, the true Explorer/Prospector. Unfortunately, this has been slated for the day after hell freezes over so don't hold your breath on this happening any time soon. BUT, I can't wait to get it!!!!!

I'd wait until I saw the development wiki before making assumptions about the weather in hell.

I actually expected there to be exploration soon.

The story even says that the TPG held exploration competions so I think we may get it far before hell freezes over since it sounded to me like they had been planning on having it. (would be scary flying around un-mapped space.

Well, to be fair, the story outlines many things that we don't have yet or may not have for a while. I can't speak to the exact timeing of things, but I can tell you that the wiki will shed a whole lot of light on the subject. The developers wrote the story and really want to see it come to life here.

Some people may not know that Vendetta was originally a tech demo for a game engine that Guild has written and hoped to sell. The demo was intended to be a fun showcase, but not a MMORPG. Over time it became clear that if Guild wanted to see their product used in a MMORPG, they were going to have to do it themselves. They've been modifying something that was kind of a kluge into a more workable and scalable structure. That alone is a huge undertaking, but consider this: Vendetta has been up and running virtually 24/7 while they modify it. That's not easy.

and in the 3 or so years that I have been a part of vendetta, I dont think the server has been down for more than 2 weeks, total. Thats all outages combined, including the dreaded garbage truck.

The engine is incredibly stable, the devs are hard at work on the content, and the sheer potential for this game is amazing, which is why the devs get my money even with all the problems the game does have at the moment.

I cant wait for the development wiki, and I can think of NO other game that has been this open with the playerbase during design, initial release, and after launch.

As for exploration (see FM i wandered around to being on topic eventually) I dont think it will be too much longer, a few months maybe. For those who doubt, remember that about a month and a half ago some of you were saying the capital ship was never going to be in game either. Well, it was in game the other night.. and will be back permanantly in the near future. After we play with the NPC version for a while the PC versions will start to appear. the devs have until the end of april before they even reach the "6 month" estimate they gave when the game launched for the potential release of the exploration pack and capital ships.
Even if they go over that deadline by 3 months, they will still be ahead of Ultima Online, which was SELLING thier first expansion in stores for 4 months before it went online. (I paid $40 bucks for the damn thing, played it for 3 months on my '30 day' purchase membership because they kept extending the release date for the expansion, and quit playing without ever seeing the "new stuff")
