My Suggestion

Mar 24, 2005 Pender link
I don't want to whine. My suggestion is that the players in this game become a little more friendly. Many already are, but in this manner of game it only takes a few, dedicated to proving to everyone else how much better they are at a game than anyone else. I enjoy PvP, but being killed repeatedly by several people at once, without any kind words or encouragement... that is the kind of thing that makes casual players cancel their subscriptions, like I just did. Unfortunately for this game, I fear that a continuation of this elitist behavior without any remorse will make VO, in the future, a small pond of 40 or 50 elite, supergood pilots and a few hundred 1 month subscribers who don't bother to renew. Maybe I am just angry right now, but it was enough for me to cancel a subscription to a game I thought was tailor made for me. If repeated bad behavior is enough for me to do this, it may be enough for others to follow suit. I hope I am wrong.

I'd like to get a little more information from you if you are still monitoring this message board pender. If you aren't than anyone else who reads this can take my comments for what they are worth.

For instance, where did this take place?
If it was in the grey systems, particularly in sedina b-8, well those areas are dangerous and venturing into them is not reccomended for the faint of heart. While many agree that the game needs a bit more warning of this for new players, that aspect is working as intended.

Did you attempt to communicate calmly with the people who were attacking you?
Almost all of the players in vendetta will talk to you unless you react immediately with a flood of swearing and name-calling, and most appreciate a good sport who at least tries to defend himself. Often people who try will be given pointers, tips and friendly advice.

Did you ask for assistance from anyone, on channel 11(team) or channel 100 (general), or simply attempt to go elsewhere?
Vendetta has a fairly large universe, and often groups tend to pick 1 wormhole to "blockade" as its easier to keep a group together than if you go haring all over the universe after targets. usually you can go around such groups to get elsewhere.

Did this take place once or over several days?
If it only occured one time, maybe you were having a bad day allready if you are reacting this strongly.. IMO if one occurence is enough to frustrate you to the point of quitting without seeking any other solution to the problem, then perhaps a MMO isnt the type of game for you. Any time you have a game that draws from a wide population base odds are there will be some players who enjoy just the sort of activity you describe.
All games have to deal with this in some manner, and Vendetta does fairly well as far as i'm concerned. The home systems of the various nations are reasonably safe for players who dont want to risk combat.

On the other hand if it was something that occured over multiple days, then a constructive suggestion for a potential solution to the problem you encountered would be appreciated, but is certaintly not required.

A final thought... Even if you are leaving us for the time being, please check back in a few months, take another free trial then and see how the game has changed.. Much of the PvP/"griefing" that goes on right now occurs because there is little else to do to challenge players past a certain point. With new content being added weekly, odds are it will be a whole new game in 5 months or so, maybe the problems you had will have been sorted out by then.

In the meantime, thank you for trying vendetta, and we hope to see you in the future.

Very very long time tester and big fan of VO.

PS: in general "i'm leaving" messages dont get a very positive response, so i tried to give yours one. Hopefully this will generate some positive commentary and divert any flames.

Yes as you can see from some of these posts there are rude people in a game.

I do beleive that paying for escort bots and bounty bots might be nice. These would protect the player and can hsve some hunt known pirates.

Even if there are no laws in gray space there is still word of mouth and many other methods for people to know about a particular person being a pirate so something could be added to mark someone who has pirated you so you can hire a bounty bot to hunt them down (for a price of course).

If you were in Corvus space then this will happen. People in that area are pirates and very rarely do you have ot worry about those issues in colored space (faction owned). Corvus space is a known pirate territory so you should avoid it if you want to avoid getting ganked.

Basically if it was a group then you were hit by a pirate gang and the solution is to avoid gray space. It may not be fair that a group killed you but the game wouldnt be very fun if it was 1vs1 as long as they agree to fight (in other words dueling only). A recommendation next time is to either hire player escorts or to tell people about the pirating incident in channel 100 so that anti-pirates such as the Vipers can eliminate the pirates.

It makes me sad to see you go but as it sounds you were killed one time and by the sounds it was in gray space since most likely you would have been given assistance by the faction guards in monitored space.

If it happened in monitored space then I would have to say we need some patrol ships to take care of those pesky pie-rats.

Besides the elitist behavior isn't much of an issue since it keeps things interesting. When I travel through gray space I want to actually worry about an enemy attack not just twiddle my thumbs while I go for a stroll.

So I do hope that you change your mind sicne the game is very fun you just need to make some freinds and then you won't have to worry so much.

Yeah I think a major problem with the PvP right now is that there aren't many good ways to get into large scale fights without being annihilated by skilled players.

Pender,

This is one reason there are guilds in the game. If you had come to us with this issue we would have dealt with it, and possibly asked any allies to help out. I know you were able to help out when another guild mate was being pirated at a wormhole sector. It made for a fun evening.

Also Spell hit it right on the head with his post.

I agree with godsize and spellcast. However, it would be a shame for you to leave. Remember, if you got sick of fighting, you could just hang back on dWo or something, trade for a whle, cool down.
