Steam Overlay Compatability?

Nov 08, 2010 Gunther Hermann link
I was just wondering if there was any way to launch VO such that steam would show status as in-game, and allow the use of the overlay (like for chatting with friends, etc.) I don't know if this rightfully belongs in Windows support, or in suggestions.

Yeah, you do it with Steam, not VO though. Goto your Steam Game Library, and near the bottom, click + Add A Game... then click Add a none steam game...

The new Window might take a little while to update, but in that list simply find and tick the box next to Vendetta Online, Click Add selected programs, and voila, Vendetta Online now shows up in Steam. You can then start VO via Steam, and once loaded Shift+Tab brings up the Steam overlay, and it shows you playing Vendetta Online! You can also delete the regular desktop shortcut to VO and make a new Steam one by right clicking Vendetta Online, and clicking "Create desktop shortcut".

Dunno if this will work in the Mac or Linux verions of Steam when they see the light of day, but cannot see why it would not.

Not that I got Steam friends to test it with, but here's a screeny (click the image to enlarge).

odd... I already did that, and am launching VO that way, but I get no overlay. I always assumed it was because it had to go through the VO updater or something like that. I guess I did post this in the correct forum after all.

Any idea why this might not be working for me?

Bad Graphics card drivers maybe? It works on most computers I have tried?

Try changing your keys used to open the Steam overlay. Perhaps to something on the numpad if you're using a desktop computer... so long as it's not bound to something in VO.

hmm, tried setting it to Scroll lock, and also to numpad +, but no dice... I'm perplexed.

What Graphics hardware do you have Gunther? Also I used the default of Shift+Tab to open the overlay, both are bound to something in VO.

I also tried this and had no luck getting the overlay to work. I dont think it's related to graphics drivers. I'm using an ATI Radeon 5670
