I'm definitely having the same problem. The error message i'm getting is

"Unable to connect to Guild Software update server! Please re-run the application to retry"

I tried making exceptions on my firewalls, and then tried altogether shutting down my firewalls for a bit, and nothing worked. Any ideas?

Shutting down the firewall and trying again was definately a smart thing to try.

You may have been trying to connect during a brief system outtage. Try it again and report back with the time (and time zone) so we can help pin it down. Also, are you trying to connect from home, or a school/business network?

Ya that was the message i was getting too. I am trying to connect from home but am completly confused on what to do. I reinstalled it too and that did not work should i download http://www.bittorrent.com thing first before installing?

I'm a little unclear. Have you already downloaded the Vendetta game client? You have a Vendetta icon and all that already?

Ya it seems to be all downloaded. I typed in the ID from the email i got then installed the program. I selected make a desktop icon. After i click on the icon i get the odd message

Hmmm, this is sounding familiar. Please tell us what OS you are using, and confirm that you are connecting from home rather than a school or business.

Can somebody paste all the text in the updater window, or take a screenshot or something, when this happens, please?

I am playing and downloaded from home for sure

Yeah, i'm playing from home and I did a full install, game icons appeared, everything is as a normal install would do. I live in Canada... I think Central time.

I'm not on that computer right now, and won't be until tomorrow. But I tried at different times (morning, afternoon, night) all of last week. I'm running Windows XP, SP2.

Do you have the XPSP2 firewall on?

I'm having simlilar problems...I downloaded the game from my cd and even offline. I click on the destop icon to start the game the update thingy doesn't pop up. It says that it can't connect to the server. Would it help if I registered with a credit card on my acct.? Would it then let me access the server? I disabled all firewalls etc. I just recently got my dsl hooked up and I even added it to the exceptions list just in case and added the tcp ports to see if it would help. I'm goign to restart my computer and see what happens I hope that it works. Any help would be great.

Welcome Tiberius (Kirk's middle name, eh?)

It sounds like you know what you're doing. Unfortunately, sometimes firewall software - particularly the XP firewall - does not. Please follow this sequence carefully:

Try completely closing the Vendetta Launcher, logging out from your ISP, and completely closing your browser (and anything else you may have open). Then go back and shut off your XP firewall. If you have ANY other antivirus / firewall software, shut that totally down as well. Now log back in to your ISP. This seems unnecessary, but recheck that the firewall is off. If all looks good, try the Vendetta launcher again.

If you get on, go ahead and re-enable your protection software while you are logged into the game. It will very likely recognize VO and request handling instructions.

Thanks for you help, but that didn't work. I just upgraded to DSL and didn't realize that the DSL Modem itself had a firewall. So if anyone is having the same problem you might want to look into your modem setup.

Again Thanks

Cool. Okay, next time I'll amend my instructions to include hardware-based firewalls. Thanks for writing back with the solution!
