really jerky controls

Jan 20, 2006 oldmanstan link
when i play vendetta the controls are incredibly jerky about 75% of the time then smooth sometimes. i really don't think it's my video card or anything since my hardware exceeds the recommendations and the problem occurs with the same frequency even with details and everything turned all the way down. it's almost as though there is lag, i will move the mouse and nothing will happen then a second later the ships heading will suddenly jerk to that direction.

anyone got any ideas?

Type /fps and actually find out if it's fps.

Personally, it sounds more like a background process is sporadically starting up and grabbing CPU. It happens to me ingame sometimes if a cron job starts up and starts hogging both of the processors. So you might want to check out what's going on in the background (compilation, slocatedb update, etc).

well i checked what's running normally and nothing is taking cpu time, at least not that much. also, i had originally set some of the detail options lower before i played the first time (i prefer framerate to graphics any day) but then after i posted i went back in and set all the options back to high quality and now it works great when i'm flying.

now the thing that skips like crazy is the navigation window, it takes me 5 minutes sometimes to pick a destination because the mouse skips so much. it's really weird, you would think that would be the part that would run faster since it's just a menu.
