drm-related startup problems

Apr 06, 2007 phoemix link
i'd like to try VO, but i have an issue with it...

when i try to start vendetta i've got this:
$ ./vendetta
drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -22 (exiting)

that's when i press the PLAY button, the screen blanks, and i got this message. and messages contains also this:
Apr 6 16:28:47 twoflower kernel: error: [drm:pid1002:r300_emit_3d_load_vbpntr] *ERROR* Offset failed range check (k=0 i=2) while processing 3D_L
OAD_VBPNTR packet.
Apr 6 16:28:47 twoflower kernel: error: [drm:pid1002:r300_emit_packet3] *ERROR* r300_emit_raw_packet3 failed
Apr 6 16:28:47 twoflower kernel: error: [drm:pid1002:r300_do_cp_cmdbuf] *ERROR* r300_emit_packet3 failed

any hope that i can check this game out?
what do i need in order to make it run?

it's an Xorg 7.2, with a radeon X300

i have successfully checked glx and gltron was running nicely.

did you try the fglrx driver?

otherwise... a few google results suggest upgradeing libdrm and mesa

it's a bit more complicated then that. there are a few issues why i cannot run fglrx. and i also have bad experience with that driver...

thanks, i will see if i can upgrade or not. it's a new system (~1week old), from the SOTA repository of the OS, so i don't know whether i will find newer versions of not.
anyways that's my workplace desktop, and my next workday will be 5 or 6 days later :)
