Please recommend a joystick for Ubuntu 7.04?

I've just started playing (eval account) and I noticed that several people are having the same problems I am having with the Saitek X45. I can get by with the mouse for now, but I'm wondering what brand/model joystick seems to work best with Ubuntu 7.04.
Thanks in advance!

What kind of problems?

This post claims that it worked at some point (and then not): http://vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/6/3973?page=2#62181

AFAIK most usb or gameport sticks should work fine.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I am running kernel 2.6.20 (17?).
I can get the axes to work just fine but I can't get the buttons to work correctly. Button1 (trigger) will not respond. I have read about others having this issue and it seems to be related to the specific kernel I am working with in Ubuntu. The button mappings overlap (button1 and button12 are detected as the same button).

In any case, it doesn't work all that well and I really don't like taking my hands off the stick or throttle so I can fire my primary and secondary weapons.

Just looking for a temporary joystick until my X45 works with the kernel again.

I *just* started a paid subscription so my experience is limited.

Last night I setup a Playstation2 controller. I was happy with the results. The mapping I settled on so far works well for me. I need to try out more difficult bots to push the limits.

I have Ubuntu Feisty on a P4.
I had some spare PS2 controllers.
I bought a "Super Joybox 5 Pro Playstation 2 to USB" on Ebay.
It just worked, no special drivers needed.
The analog sticks are mapped in the VO "joystick" tab while the controller buttons are all mapped to VO "keyboard" actions.

good luck,
