bright white shields

Is this normal?

since upgrading to version 8.41 of the ati drivers shields look like that. I blamed it on them not officially supporting my card but now that 8.42 is out I'm still getting that and those are supposed to work with mine.
I'm using shader model 2.0, 1.4 doesn't seem to work at all .. which is kinda odd too.

my card is a radeon 9550.

1.4 only works on Mac OS X because only the Apple version has that extension. I've talked wht ATI about that in the past, but they said it was up to Apple to allow it to be used in Linux. Stupid politics.

Does the shield fade away or does it suddenly turn off?

ah ok ..I thought 1.4 was a subset of 2.0 or something.

it fades away. just the color seems to be missing and there are some artifacts.

Ok, I'll check it out and see if anyone else is having the same problem with 2.0 shaders on linux or, in general, opengl.

Could be a driver bug too. 8.41 was supposed to be a partial rewrite.

I tried a few different settings now. With shaders off it works fine but with either 1.4 or 2.0 enabled it goes white.

I ain't having that problem, spuck. Same card, same driver. Shields look as they should...

Hmm. Maybe your shaders option got turned off somehow, mr_spuck.

Well, everything else is all glowy so it can't be completely off.
I deleted my config file now in case I have some weird option on. still the same.

It's not a big problem anyway, just looks a kinda ugly.

I downgraded to 8.40 .. with that it still looks correct.
going back to an older Xorg version had no effect.

OK, so the older video driver rendered it properly. Thanks for the update.

Just thought I would reference my situation here per Inc's suggestion. LOL, honestly didn't notice anything wrong until someone pointed it out.
