Game crashing on start on Ubuntu 9.04

Hey tried to run the game for the first time and it crashed. I reported the bug but i decided to have a look for myself too.

In the terminal it comes up with this error:

get fences failed: -1
param: 6, val: 0

Is this param part to do with that config.ini file? i changed the parameter in question and nothing happened so maybe it doesnt after all. I don't know whats up. Maybe you guys could help. Been messing about with the config.ini file changing the (what i assume to be) boolean values but thats about it. Nothing happening so far.

Fixed it by changing most of the values in config.ini to 0 like it said in other forums.

I'm only on a crappy Intel 915GM chipset laptop with a 1.6ghz processor and 1gb of memory so i cant expect it to run incredibly smooth but it flatly refuses to run fullscreen. Its laggy as hell and the mouse pointer is about as responsive as a dry turd. Any optimisation tips you can give me?

Is it possible to run it on a low resolution but centred on the screen with black borders or something because playing it windowed in the bottom right corner of my screen is pretty distracting. Seems to be a lot of issues with this game on Ubuntu.

I don't have one of those intel things. But I read that there are known performance issues with the intel drivers that came with 9.4.

Here's a writeup on the topic in their wiki
https://wiki.edubuntu.org/X/Troubleshooting/IntelPerformance

Some people got some improvements by down or upgrading their drivers.

About running the game with a lower resolution check intel driver man page under PANEL_FITTING.
