never had this happen before, but it has been...ooohh... 5 months since i've played :)

What Linux distribution are you using? It's crashing in, like, printf(), or perhaps localtime()... Maybe the timezone isn't set right? Dunno. But it's trying to write a line to the log file with a timestamp.

Well, that's what's happening. Sounds more like an incompatible libc.
