Vendetta quitting and complaining about /dev/dsp

Jun 23, 2004 red cactus link
tdennist@gentoo tdennist $ vendetta
/dev/dsp: No such file or directory
tdennist@gentoo tdennist $ artsdsp vendetta
tdennist@gentoo tdennist $

The first time I launched Vendetta, it loaded up fine, and I clicked on my character. It started loading the sector, and just was about finished when it quit, with the error message you see on the second line, there. Then I thought it might have something to do with XMMS playing in the background (even though XMMS is playing through aRts), so I tried artsdsp vendetta. This time it quits at the same place with NO error message. Any ideas?

is there anything useful in the errors.log file that's in the directory vendetta is installed to? Usually it's ~/.vendetta I think.

Hmm. Looks like I may have a screwed up install. This makes me think it's not the sound, but rather something with the graphics... :

Hmm. ok, the Bug Reporter should have come up but it didn't.

I'll have to check out the crash. Could be sound, or could be something else.
Jun 23, 2004 red cactus link
Good luck. By the way, I'm using ATI's binary drivers (v3.9) for my Radeon 9600 Pro with XFree86 v4.3, if that helps any. And this was before 3.5, too.

sorry if this is off topic .. when the game crashed this Bug Reporter never came up for me... is it a stand alone application or just supposed to launch my browser with the Bug Report Form?
Jun 24, 2004 red cactus link
Application.
