Feb 24, 2006 Screwball link
TGFT and EnB will again be hosting The Deneb Run this weekend.

*** The TIME will be 22:00 (10:00 PM) GMT Saturday (5 PM EDT) ***

This is to better enable European players to participate. The plan is to alternate between 22:00 GMT on Saturday and 02:00 GMT on Sunday.

Check /time if you are confused about GMT.

*** New VO Client not-allowed due to battery exploit ***

All citizens are welcome to race, there is no entrance fee, and 4 Million credits in prizes are available. Some of it could be yours!

Once again, the rules are:

1) Racers must race from Odia M14 through Deneb heading clockwise back to Odia M14.
2) Race starts in Odia M14 near the station.
3) Contestants must be within 100m of me before the start
4) No shooting before I start the race.
5) You die and you're out (so no /exploding)
6) All weapons and ships allowed, except those listed in #10.
7) First person to get back and dock at Odia M14 wins the first prize. (2 million credits)
8) Second person back gets 2nd place prize (1.2 million credits)
9) Third person back gets 3rd place prize (800k credits)
10) No Valkyries allowed.
11) Racers must use the standard VO client, not the new one in testing.
12) If there are at least 3 racers, and less than 3 racers complete The Deneb Run, the undistributed prize money will be awarded to those who killed the racers as follows:
- The most recent kill gets the highest unawarded prize
- The 2nd most recent kill gets the second highest unawarded prize
- etc.

Example: If 1 racer finishes, the player that had the last kill of a racer will receive a 1.2 million credit prize, and the player that had the 2nd most recent kill would receive 800k credits.

I believe this is a good way of saying thanks to those who help spice things up for the racers.

Please reply to this thread if you intend to race.

I THINK I can make it, but I'm thinking of leaning more to a more mercenary-like role and going pirate, assuming there isn't a small turnout.

Racer here, always ready to speed ahead and win/die >_>

I'm 90% certain I'll attend.

The Race-Make-Fun Squad needs your support!

To make the race more fun and exciting you have to do just one thing: Kill them racers! Crush their cockpits, turn their ships into scrap, spill their blood onto the spacelanes!

Use ANY means nessessary!

To offset expenses I'll give you 500K for every racer that you prevented entering the m14 station in one piece. Even the pathetic excuses of human waste products who take part in the race can collect the money. Show that you're more than an ape in a speedboat!

There were some arguments over payment and prizes tonight, and I would like to address an alternative prize system for the Deneb Run:

1) Prize values would remain the same; 2 million for 1st place, 1.2 million for 2nd place, and 800kc for 3rd place.
2) Pirates would not be paid out of this amount; they would have to make their own "Kill the Racers" fund, something spuck is clearly able to do (and fund).
3) Should less than three racers finish, the prize money that was not awarded during the race is added to the four million credit pot of the next race, where it will be divided up appropriately for that race. This process would repeat until three (or more) racers completed the Deneb Run, at which point the winnings would be divided among the first three finishers in the same 2 : 1.2 : 0.8 ratio.
Example sequence of Deneb Runs under this rule:
Run A:
Initial pot: 4 million (2000000; 1200000; 800000)
7 racers, 2 finish.
2.2 million credits awarded, 800k added to pot.

Run B:
Initial pot: 4.8 million (2200000; 1440000; 960000)
3 racers, 0 finish.
0 credits awarded, 4.8 million added to the pot.

Run C:
Initial pot: 8.8 million (4400000; 2640000; 1760000)
5 racers, 1 finishes.
4.4 million awarded, 4.4 million added to pot.

Run D:
Initial pot: 8.4 million (4200000; 2520000; 1680000)
6 racers, all finish.
8.4 million awarded, pot resets.

Run E:
Initial pot: 4 million (2000000; 1200000; 800000)
7 racers, 3 finish.
4 million credits awarded, pot resets.

the idea sucks!

Hows about, pirates for the win!

Yarrr!
Feb 25, 2006 jexkerome link
Anything to discourage the pirates is a good idea.
Feb 25, 2006 moldyman link
How bout we stop doing things to encourage pirates. Last time I checked, pirates were shunned and hated by most everyone else. If they want to do something, that's great for them. Since the pirates will have to rely on other "honest and honorable" pirates for prizes.

My only suggestion is that you somehow take care of the station camping problem. Pirating on the way is fine, but as I proved and said before, "A monkey in a quadflare spamming a dock can win money in two seconds. Pardon the pun"

On top of that, spuck never paid me. I'm fine with that, I don't want his money anyway. But it proves the point that if pirates want money for killing racers, they should deal with other pirates. And, thus, be subject to when a certain someone doesn't want to pay them. Only fair.
Feb 26, 2006 yodaofborg link
Hmm, last time I was shunned and hated by everyone was beta monky, and you were not there, so hows about you racers keep racing, and ye keep yer own prize moneies, and us pirates will keep pirating, and maybe give each other monies? And then ye can all share a nice hot steaming cup of STFU?

And as for rules, they are for racers!
Feb 26, 2006 jexkerome link
yoda's idea I like, specially the STFU part; I like mine with a hint of mint.
Feb 26, 2006 toshiro link
Hmm... personally, I don't see the people who go after the racers as pirates, rather just as meddlers. In any case, I'm all for MIharu's idea. No need to pay people for killing racers if it's already being done (by spuck). Also, the jackpot system might generate more of an incentive to participate, which will, in turn, make it easier for all racers.
Feb 27, 2006 fooz2916 link
The reason why Spuck is putting on bounties is to add incentive. If TGFT takes away its incentive b/c of this...I just think it's wrong...

@Moldy: If you have trouble w/ station campers, "ask" someone for some help, where "ask" = "Give 100,000 (if successful) to"
Feb 27, 2006 jexkerome link
Hmmm... I distinctly remember pirates haunting the race way before the organizers "gave incentives". The difference is that now every idiot with access to flares, mines and swarms wants in on the action (e.g. BG), whereas before only "true" pirates tried to disrupt the race. Having some pirates around is fun, having almost 50% more pirates than racers is not. Do try and remember this is a race, not a "gank the unarmed players" event. Not even TGFT's Mining Event is that!

Plus, if in order to participate you must shell out cash to protect yourself, then it's kinda no longer free to participate, like TGFT and EnB meant it to be, now is it?
Feb 27, 2006 moldyman link
I would, but the only person I'd pay is Niki. He did a very good job at it the one time we had his help.

Besides, hopefully there will be a "Station Camping kills dont count" rule if Screwball still decides to keep shelling out money to the pirates.

So...

Where are the results, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
Feb 28, 2006 Screwball link
Announcing the results of The Deneb Run #35, sponsored by TGFT and EnB.

The Pilots
----------
Blue Streak: Itani, member of SB, the most succesful racer of The Deneb Run, as well as one of the more constant participants, part-time race host, and the one who writes up the Race section below.

Mick: UIT, he placed 2nd in The Deneb Run #34 last week.

Joyce Sanders: UIT, commander of SB, another strong competitor, she is known for flying a Warthog TD in The Deneb Run, and is co-hostess at the Makchuga.

John Rambler: UIT, newly elected council member of TGFT and a veteran racer.

Toshiro: Serco, member of SoR, this is his second time racing.

CL0WN: HAHAHAHAHAHA... I mean... UIT, this is his first race.

The Race
--------
[check here later]

The Stats
---------
Mick | 38:01 | Orion Hornet, FC battery, No weapons
Joyce Sanders | 54:10 | Warthog TD, FC battery, Chaos Swarms
John Rambler | DNF | Corvus Marauder, FC battery, 3x Positron Blasters
toshiro | DNF | Vulture MkI, FC battery, No weapons
Blue Streak | DNF | Vulture MkI, FC battery, No weapons
CL0WN | DNF | Vulture MkI, FC battery, No weapons

Interesting observations:

1. Pirates 3, Vultures 0
2. Neither the Warthog TD nor Corvus Maud, which have high top speeds but also high turbo drain, came even close to the long haul speed of the infiniboost ships.
3. The Pirates were a very strong factor this week, as were the many Ion storms. Both pilots that finished the race docked mid-race in order to repair and survive the gauntlet at the end.
