New Android Asset release, testing and feedback.

Nov 23, 2013 incarnate link
If you're trying the new Android assets (updated nebulae, planet textures, etc), please post any issues or feedback here. If you'd like to try the new version, you can download it here.

Among other things, the new textures are ETC1 compressed, instead of DXTC. This should have a little better graphical fidelity, with much better performance and memory usage on some GPUs (ARM Mali, others).. while having slightly worse memory usage on other GPUs (NVIDIA, Qualcomm). It's more "compatible" overall, and a better way of doing things across all Android devices.

However, the new textures are also much higher resolution. They may not be turned up as high as they can go; please try the defaults and let us know how it works, and then feel free to fiddle around with the background detail settings.

I have two questions:

Do we have to remove the old installer and VO folder, or is the install incremental?

Where to report results, here or as bug reports?

I installed this version without uninstalling the old one. Here are the bugs I encountered so far:

* Atlases and Ragnaroks show without skin, rendered as only bright single colored shapes. EDIT: I didn't check all ships, there may be others.

* All other ship dressings are colorless, I can not customize ship colors.

Can you list the files that are currently installed? They will be in either /sdcard/VendettaOnline or /sdcard/Android/data/com.guildsoftware.vendetta/files

Thanks. I was mainly interested in seeing if you had old assets and new ones installed at the same time, which it looks like you don't.

Textures all look good on my phone. (Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 w/Adreno 225.)

Stations and asteroids look a bit more grainy than I remember.

I tested it on my phone some more, and I may be wrong, but it seems to me that battery usage is slightly improved.

Just an fyi, I found the cause of the rendering problem, it happens when shader is off.

Thanks for your help. The issue is fixed in the 1.8.269 update.

So far i have had no issues, the textures look so much better it feels like a big step up. Also feels a little smoother. I am on an archos 80 cobalt 8" tablet, on mali quad gpu. This is now the ingame update? Thanks devs!

It looks pretty good on my Nexus 5. That phone runs VO better than my laptop does.

I'm on nexus 7 (2013) Snapdragon quad core and along with a new snapdragon logo the login screen is tiny and the buttons on HUD seem wrong. I have taken screenshots but can't seem to attach them.
