Capship Turret Automation

Player Capship Turrets may now be controlled en-masse, in an automated way, using the "ActivateTurrets" bind.

This will concentrate all turret fire onto a single selected target.

Projectile and Energy weapons will only fire if the selected target is within the turret's field-of-view, and within distance-based "range".

Homing Missiles will fire based on the weapon's own field-of-view, so Swarm Missiles will fire even if the target is "behind" them.

Turret Targeting now works differently from all other enemy targeting, and will fire on vessels that are even partially visible to the turret. This includes large, nearby targets, like other capships.

Turrets now deplete energy from the central reactor of the ship. Also, due to "Farming" issues, capship turret kills have been temporarily reduced in producing high-value Hive drops.

Mobile Control Updates

A new Default Control interface is currently in testing solely on Android. It will come to iOS once frequent changes have stabilized.

Half the touch screen is now dedicated to a new, high-precision input model, similar to "Mouselook" on PC.

This way, the touch input can exceed the turning capabilities of a given ship, but the ship will turn to match the new heading.

Existing control configs have been maintained for current game installs, but players can reset to the new defaults, or configure them, by going into Options, Advanced, Controls, Touch and tapping "Defaults". More information is available in the release notes.

Beyond controls, the Android version is also testing changes to the new user experience, tutorials, multi-core threading and other changes.

Corporate Sector Run

The cross-galaxy race known as the Corporate Sector Run, a weekly event on Saturdays, has been expanded to include an additional time, 12 hours after the normal race.

Now at both 9am and 9pm UTC, this allows people on the other side of the globe to enjoy the fast-paced Event, which pits racers against hunters as they compete for large prizes.

  • September 18th, 09:00 UTC (4am Central) and 21:00 UTC (4pm Central) - Corporate Sector Run

Update History

Here's a recap of other updates, since the last Newsletter. As usual, this doesn't really represent "everything we've been doing", but it shows some of the player-visible changes that have been made, along with a few additional details about items listed above:

  • Teller-Ulam Mines now have a much larger concussive force, within the same concussive range. Explosive damage is unchanged.
  • Capital Ship Swarm Launchers and Turrets now require 500 energy to fire.
  • Certain Hive drops, like those commonly used in Capital Ship manufacturing, now have absolute per-unit-time drop limits, per-sector. This means that once a sector stops producing specific drops, no more will appear until a time limit expires. Both the drop-limit and the time-limit are randomized within ranges, varying across sectors. If a sector has been exhausted, it will be best to avoid that sector for a few hours. In this way, intensive "farming" activity of Hive drops will need to move from sector-to-sector, over time, to achieve successful yields. The absolute quantity of possible yield is defined server-side, regardless of the number of players or the technique involved.
  • Capship Turrets no longer increment the "kill" counters.
  • iOS App Store update with improved login times and fixes.
  • Capship under attack messages now include the name of the attacker and notifies the owner when its shields go down.
