Couldn't you pick it up in an almost dead ship, then log out and your ship will disappear? If so, it would be easy to steal it if Impavid is too trusting. This is a hilarious thread, though.

I don't, really. I just thought it was cool so I posted a picture, and got a bunch of grief. Seems like grief is a good part of what a lot of people do in this game. I'll let it go, I still have a dev pelt! HA!

I thought it was a joke at first. An impressive fake, but a fake. Turns out it's a1kon's joke. I don't doubt it's real; looks like a genuine Easter Egg to me.

It isn't (very) hard for the devs to create widgets on the fly.

There is, of course, an easy solution to the question of whether or not this is real.

Most digital cameras have movie mode. You could also use a webcam, with VO running in window mode. Set up the camera to take a video of the screen, showing your hands running the controls, upload it, and post a link.

Simple, unless you don't have a digital camera or webcam.

Of course, you could still edit the footage. It'd be harder to fake, but not absolutely fake-proof.

I have faith that Impavid is telling the truth. No need to see movies. Andy would dream up a widget like that.

Overkill? *shrug* I dunno. Maybe not to me, but if you have limited resources, it could be. Then again, I'm only running a 7 year-old Mac, with a crappy USB webcam and a halfway decent digital cam, and I'd be posting a video in a heartbeat if that's what it took. Would take me all of, oh, 5 minutes to setup, shoot, upload and link.

And, yeah, you could edit the video, but unless you have some really good software (or went through a lot of trouble to fake VO running in a window), I think any fakes would be detectible. The average home user might have Paint, and maybe Photoshop, but video editing software of the kind required? I doubt it.

Is this a challenge or a dis? No. Just my 2¢. I really don't care one way or the other, as a dev pelt means nothing to me. But, if I had one, and I was being publicly doubted, it's what I'd do.
