w00t! thank you, I love you!
and why won't the fire work on mac?
Jun 14, 2003 Arolte link
Yeah. I only see sparks and smoke. Occasionally I'd see yellow sparks, but I don't think that's the fire.

A ship has to be down to about 3% for the reallly good flames to appear.

cool :D

I've been down to 1-3% on several ships and switched to external camera view. Unfortunately all I see are yellow sparks. The "fire" graphics from Humpy's screenshots are missing. Do I need an r_glow capable graphics card to view it? Or is this a graphical glitch for Macs?

external camera view? excuse me while I be a newbie for a minute and ask how?

Youch. What resolution is THAT?
Jun 15, 2003 HumpyThePenguin link
Its horrible! I have no r_glow cuz my sound card is one and the same as my gfx card!

darn eMachines from '97....

st00pid 1mb video memory!

Did genka just say he LOVED me?

/me shudders

LMAO, "My gfx card are one and the same" "1mb"

my CPU has more Cache ram than your video card...ouch...

Anyways, very few mac cards are capable or rGlow effects, as I'm aware, only the nVidia MX440+ and the TI line, and maybe the Radeon 9000 series, (if they're ported yet)

Do yourself a favor and get a PC, and you can have real hardware to play a real game on..:P

The mx 440 can't do it, nor the Ti line OR the Radeon 9000. For macs, you need a NVIDIA GeForce FX+ or an ATI Radeon 9600+ ( maybe the 9200, I'm not sure). Same as Linux. As for the shots, well, one of these days I'll post mine. The fire is SWEET with rglow on and gatten set to 0.2
Jun 16, 2003 Renegade ++RIP++ link
euhm the Ti can do it, only with windows :D

you have need for a FX if you want to see it under linux :D

It's a directx - Opengl issue (Or so I've been told :D)

cheers

Yeah, 'cause OpenGL doesn't have a standard vertex shader program. Something about ARB_fragmentation_grenade or something. :D

I have a Mac with the Radeon 8500 and the glow and fire works just fine. I'm running on a older G4 with OS 10.2.6, 1 gig of ram and a upgraded 1 gig hrz dual proc. I find that you have to just play with the video till it runs smoothly. If I could figure out how to post screens I would show you.

/me does his DirectX 9.0 dance

odd.....the current DirectX version is the same version as mine!

Arolte> It works just fine on the Mac, make sure your effecct details are on high.
Jun 16, 2003 Arolte link
They are.

Actually, on the Mac we support ATI_text_fragment_shader, which is supported by the Radeon 8500 and above. Nvidia cards will require ARB_fragment_program, which is GeforceFX only.

OK, I found and fixed the problem with damage effects not working properly on the mac.
