A letter to those of you who are quiting or leaving "untill things get changed"

Jul 12, 2003 Urza link
I laugh at you people. You people think that the devs care enough about you to go out of their way to change something as soon as you quit. You dont mean "untill they get changed" you mean "do it or i'm gone." Well, all i gotta say to you is fine. We'll be happy to see you go, because if your ego is so big that you think the devs care if you stay or leave, then we dont want you.

Shhh... simmer down, Sam. Yes, some people do expect too much out of a beta, and hopefully the final version of Vendetta will be a whole lot different than it is now. But you also need to consider that they're not only losing beta testers, but also losing potential customers. Yes, the very same customers that will pay for the food and bills of the devs when Vendetta hits the streets.

We shouldn't be too careless to say that we don't care 100%. Of course we care. We want to play with as many as we can, because the game wouldn't be fun if all we had were six people on at a time. Anyway, this is just something you should consider in general before telling people to go to hell when they leave. Hey, sometimes they have a good reason.

I should point out here to new players that this is but one player's opinion, despite the "we". Vendetta is still very much in it's infancy. Changes will be made as the game-engine develops, but keep in mind that the game-engine is still under construction and sometimes it isn't logical to respond to even overwhelming user requests until related aspects of the game engine are in place.

It's a little like having a house built and demanding that the workers immediately install a working solid-platinum whirlpool tub be installed while the house's foundation is still being built. It *could* be done, but it would never be right.

If your frustration is spoiling your enjoyment of the game-engine testing, by all means, take a break. Patience!

I feel I should also remind users that:

"The TEST is not at all representative of the goals or design concepts intended for the final game. It is not a "Beta" or even an "Alpha". Again, it is best to consider it a separate project."

Heh, even Halflife was the second iteration of a game Valve made.
A good game can't be made overnight. (shouldn't take 5 years though either)
