August Tournament

Aug 24, 2003 Nalar link
I am organizing a vendetta tournament, were teams will climb a ladder to the championship. The tourny will be like this:

Type I Team Tournament (3v3)
-------------------
Teamates must be of the same color.
Enemy team must be of another color.
No leaveing the combat sector.
No killing the judges.
No stationing.
No spaceing.
All weapons allowed, excpet for the following three types:
No mineing (proximity or lightning).
No nukeing (avalons).

Three ships will be used for each team:
1 Hornet per team
1 Vulture per team
1 Hog per team

Each player has 3 Lives. He must be homed in the combat sector.
If a player dies and has a life left, he has 60 seconds to get out and fight.

If the battle is interupted, the judge will call a HALT. All combat scores will be paused untill the judge allows the match to continue. If a match can not finish due to someone being a jerk, or a confused new player, the match will be halted and continued at a latter date. The matches will be held in sector 15. The judge will politely ask non combatants to stay at least past/in the roid belt. Results of the tourny and screenshots will be provided after the event.

If both teams can come up with more then 3 players, and each team has the same number of players (4v4,5v5) then the teams may agree to a larger battle.

I will be asking well respected members of the community to assisst as judges. These judges may also fight in any match that they are not judgeing (if they are on a team). Judges will use a color other then the one that the two fighting teams are useing while they are judgeing a match.

I would like to ask the "evil" guilds to not interfere in the events, EiG has already agreed (in fact hsr says its disbanded) so I think the only other guild to ask is the syn, but they have a code of honor anyways :)

If anyone is intrested in participating, either talk to me in game, or reply to this post. Its ok if you dont have a team yet, we will work that all out. Please let me know your ship preferance as well. This will take some time to set up, as we have to align peoples playing time. If a player is missing for a match, a replacement player may be used if the short team wishes. Any advice on the rules/setup is welcome. Hope to see you all! :)

Hey, run a grammar/spelling checker please...

Nuking, Mining, Leaving, Except, Interrupted, Assist, Using, and many more I'm too tired to notice....

The plan is for no one to dock, so reloading and repairing is out... This is going to take a while to set up, but I think it will be worth it. I am going to talk to SF, I belive he has some experiance with matches. Sorry for the bad spelling alien.
I am looking for two teamates myself.

Oh, what do you guys think about the ships? I am thinking about allowing each player to use any non special.

Sounds very ambitious Nalar, but I'm all for it! Sign me up for Gold. And good luck. ;)

argh, no reload for my hornet, I'd hope I'd die before I'm out of rockets.

You were always great in a light fighter, too, Blaster. You could consider using a Vulture or Centurion. :)

as stupid as it may sound, we have to talk about the issue of rocket-ramming.
there are at least 2 POVs on this issue:
1. allow it! because the pilots entering the tournament should
a) know how to dodge rockets (if not fired at 10m) and
b) know better than to ram in a tournament.

2. ban it! because in real life sports, fouls are being punished too.
make it dependent of the judge whether a certain incident was a rocket-ram or not (it should be more or less apparent).

i wonder what you think about it.
Aug 26, 2003 UncleDave link
No, rocket ramming should be allowed (since its damn near suicidal in any of these ships)

present to be in the red team.... tell me how , where when etc....

Toshiro, it depends on how you define "Rocket Raming"
Ic your saying "Run up insanely close and unload rockets into em so that we both die" then you should gety fouled for that, mabye even your whole team fouled.

but if it just means "rocket usage" then no, we should allow that
Aug 26, 2003 Renegade ++RIP++ link
humpy,

rocketramming = shooting your rockets that close that you receive your own splash. It doesnt necessarely mean 50m, 100m will get a bad shot some splashdamage to.

cheers

well asp, sure, I'll get in any of those ships, the ones that are left ;)
Aug 26, 2003 UncleDave link
We need individual nation tournaments to establish 3 'champions' from each to go into battle. How, God knows.
Aug 27, 2003 toshiro link
personally, i'm actually for prohibiting and penalizing the use of rockets generally.
for a judge, it's hard to decide what was a rocket-ram and what wasn't.
if we're going to leave it in, all (every single one) of the competitors agrees that the referees (judges) hold full and exclusive jurisdiction on fouls and penalties. like in soccer, even if a foul was not intentional, you will receive an admonition (yellow card) and if you foul repeatedly you get banned for one or more matches (red card).
i'd say we take this all out and relieve ourselves of this because it's only bent on causing bad blood (IMO). also, we have to consider the human component. why shouldn't i (if i were a judge) tolerate a mistake of a friend/teammate and judge harsher on a fault a person committed whom i dislike? who would rectify that? what would be the consequences for the faulty judge?
Aug 27, 2003 The Kid link
well if you rocket ram and die, it'll just be a tie (if everyone rams).
Aug 27, 2003 doofusblah link
i like matches. count me in for blue, gives something to do between caps besides botting. i think rocket ramming won't be too big of a problem, as 'The Kid' said, ramming really doesn't help your team too much since rammer is hurt as well. plus, given no rearming rules, 16 rockets are rather quick to exhaust if the people know how to dodge.

In a 1-1 duel rocket ramming wouldn't get you very far, but in a 3v3 melee you could probably do some considerable damage with rockets at close range, even if you issued.
