Updated Instruction Manual

Aug 25, 2003 bigun89 link
Is there any chance, that if I went through the effort to write a new instruction manual in HTML, would you devs post it if you like it? The one that I read online is QUITE old and severely needs updating. We get questions all the time, and the response "RTFM" doesn't cut it right now.

People can rewrite the pages, complete with HTML and written such that they can be seamlessly dropped into the existing manual.. and I'll consider doing so. Clarity of writing, spelling, and punctuation are obvious necessities. If I have to rewrite very much, I'll probably be inclined to just not post it, since I currently don't have any time to dedicate to that particular project. It's clearly something we could use, though.

Celebrim and rougelazer are two names that pop immediately into mind. I bet they'd do well to take a crack at it.

I'd be willing to proofread the copy. Both my parents are writers so they would be happy to give me some pointers. Just email me if you're interested at electric27n0spm@mac.com

hrm, if you dont have the time for it bigun89, im currently unemployed(again) and I could probably rewrite it with some updating, if it would be possible to get some feedback on it anyway. I can try if you dont want to.

/me is entirely bored and needs something to do besides updating church websites which he doesnt get paid for anyway, adding one more to the list wouldnt hurt

edit: meaning adding one more thing to update wouldnt hurt.. right now its a lull in updating the websites ive written, mainly due to all I gotta do is load in the week's service and thats it. and for the organization ones its merely loading in their schedule.. meaning aside from spending 3-5 hours a day job hunting i got nothing to do.. and truthfully, I would prefer to be doing something like updating manual then playing

Well it was decided that we should have atleast one spot to put all our content ideas together and so forth.

forum.starfreeze.com - Sign up if you haven't and pm me that you want to work on the user manual. This is basicly for CONTENT purposes not display, stuff like how it's aligned or how it looks when it's all over with will be done by me and a few other webpage helpers.

Here are the rules...since in this thread everyone can edit everyone's post.

P.S. You won't be accepted if you are known to have cause trouble to the community.

1. No deleting posts!

2. If you want a new page to put stuff on put (NEW) in the title and in the post put what page you want to be link to this one. "Link from page [Page's Title]"

3. EVERYTHING is recorded on who does what thus you can be easily busted. Do not completely delete someone's work, if you don't like it add a reply about what you don't like and it can be talked about.

4. Talk in here with knowledge not stupidity.

5. Do not edit other people's posts...in here everyone is a moderator which is required in order to allow everyone to edit the pages.

6. DO NOT EDIT THIS!

7. Use html not bbcode. so use < B>Bold< /B> not [ B]Bold[ /B]

8. Pictures: Find someone to host them or find me. Put the full links down for now. I will go through each page before it will reach GuildSoftware to change images and insert the border html code.

9. http://vendetta.guildsoftware.com/manual/gameplay.html refer to that for whats what.

10. If you want you can make your own page on a seperate site just post a reply with a link.

11. Do not worry about layout in this forum once we think a page is good enough me and a few others will lay it out to look good.

>>People can rewrite the pages, complete with HTML and written such that they can be seamlessly dropped into the existing manual..

I was thinking a complete rewrite. The original does not issue a lot of the questions I had when I was a newb. Like, "How do I get my start with money?", or "How do I make money?", or "How do I bind keys?". A manual with references for complete newbs all the way up to the experienced gamer new to Vendetta.

>>hrm, if you dont have the time for it bigun89, im currently unemployed(again) and I could probably rewrite it with some updating, if it would be possible to get some feedback on it anyway. I can try if you dont want to.

ABSOLUTELY!! We could spilt it up into different parts for everyone to work on! I would like to claim the complete newbie section. I am quite n00b friendly! :)

Sure! I'll probably make a temporary page to post any update to the manual in progress for review instead of e-mail.

My e-mail is bigun89@excite.com if anyone wants to e-mail privately.

Well, I finished a VERY beta version of what I want one section to look like. Please excuse any typos, mispellings, and grammatical errors. Everything (pics and all) was done in 2 and half hours. I just want basic opinions and feedback. Nothing too harsh...please!

Ahh, what you are wanting is to write a newb guide essentually, not update the manual on the site. The manual on the site however, does need a bit of updating.. question, anyone willing to help me get some images tonight or tomorrow night?

bigun89, sadly ive no desire to write a strategy guide for the test(changes will occur prolly more often), however rewriting the manual, I am willing to help with(i think sf has started to setup to work on that).

Although feel free to continue with writting your strategy guide.. many others have written them.. and more cant hurt

More or less, it was a walkthrough for those who do not like reading through basic, listed functions in a manual. Aye, this was a walkthru / strategy guide. But I only want it to be one section of a new manual. I plan on rewriting the WHOLE thing before it's over with. Let's face it, when players come into a station, they don't see "level 1" or "level 3" lasers for sale. LOL. The game has gone far beyond that. When 3.3 comes out I plan on updating anything (including pictures) to go along with it. I'll stick with the devs on this until their done tweaking.

As far as pictures go, tell me what you want and I'll get them to you. Let me know your e-mail address.
