We'll be doing a release later today (1.8.170), hopefully by midday.. but watch for the patch. It'll probably be 10MB or so. A couple of points:
1) There should theoretically be a new, hidden station in grayspace, using the new capship-station components. Good luck finding it :).
2) The capship-station components will probably still be tweaked a bit. The resulting stations is very large, by game standards, but is not yet fully realized to my intended goals. It's tough to get a sense of scale, for instance, because I'm not yet using any of the "normal" station components amongst the capship components, which would serve to give an impression of how large a "capship storage facility" is when compared to the "station residential module" that we've been flying around for years (the big blocks with all the windows).
So, to recap, this new station is a prototype. But, I am excited to be moving towards the sort of huge, expansive stations that the UIT in particular were always intended to have. I have been waiting something like 14 years to have giant, complex stations, with dense traffic patterns of small NPC craft flying to and fro in channels around them, and big caps docked or moving here or there.
The actual release of playable capships is obviously also in the pipe as part of this, but will not debut later today with this first station. Ray discovered a significant bug in the playable-capship mechanics last night, and that needs to be fixed before we can move forward.

Hooray!
Edit: Okay, this is entirely on the different end of the scale, but since we're doing 'hidden' stations again, could we get some Sector-10 style mini-outposts eventually? I always thought Sector 10 had the coolest station and it would provide for a good smuggler/pirate-type place to hang out.

Well, can't wait for that 10MB to come this way.
I think there might be some Sector 10 stations out there with no S icon or accompanying welcoming crew.

Outstanding Guild! It's amazing to see progress on cap ships in the midst of the Android launch. Good work!
I agree, it should.
Ray hit a bug with a new Android tutorial that's included in the same release. He's trying to fix it as quickly as he can.

It was nice knowing you, Maal.
Inc, will this be a conquerable station, or just a manufacturing station?

Congrats Guild! Dr. Lecter: Try seeing a therapist about your attention-cravings and your general bratishness, they should be able to help you work out your many, many issues.
Per Ray in-game, it will not be conquerable. Update drops in 15 minutes from now.
I was waiting for player cappies to renew my subs, but this update made me pay another quarter...
downloading now... slow as expected... (10Mbps here, high lag but good bandwidth).
This new station should become a TPG station, selling TPG Tridents for players... Or Orion, if first player-run cappie come as another, new ship.

The new station is AWESOME!
Hehe this thing is HUGE. Looks like Serco tech almost. Seems to share some of the aesthetics of the Heavy Assault Cruiser. :)
It's hard to get the scale of it, maybe these will help

WOW!!! GREAT ONE!!!
Finally, stations will be as big as they should be! Awesome! Even a HAC seems tiny near it.
Good pics, slime!
And CONGRATULATIONS, Guild Software.
After a few talks, maybe we should call it the BorgTron station... :)

It doesn't look to me like a HAC or Constellation will fit in the dock, in which case it seems like some adjustment might be a good idea. I hope, at least that we'll be getting capships other than the Trident eventually.
Yes, Incarnate was flying around in a HAC at first and noted that he didn't scale the docks properly, they're too small.
I'm going to wait on final judgement until the detail textures get coerced into working with this thing, but as it is this is the ugliest station that has ever been in VO. Sigh.
Structurally, I disagree. Structurally it's the coolest station in VO. Simply because it is the ONLY station that is visibly different from every other station.
I think you're forgetting Verasi I-5. Sure, it uses standard station components, but being built in to a giant asteroid does qualify as a slight visual distinction.
