Looks more Lego than Serco. Just my opinion of course.
Not every model is gonna be able to be beautifully detailed. I had a budget of around 500-600 tris. I used that.
It's OK, Terran, you don't need to worry about it. None of this crap will ever be in-game.
*giant yawn* Huh? Did ya say sometin' Lecter? I have no treats for you, so no begging.
Just out of curiosity, where exactly are you pulling this 500-600 "tris" number from?
And why did you decide to spend pretty much all of you "budget" on round engine exhausts pointing in all directions?

1 - Tris is short for triangles. Fighters can have up to 2000 triangles, if I remeber correctly. would it make much sense to make a 10 meter fighter for the triangle budget of a maybe 75-80 meter corvette?
2 - I like rounded engines.
3 - While most of my triangle budget is in detailing, some of it goes into unimeshing the ships: making it so that the ships are each all one mesh.
4 - It's my design. If you have any detailing suggestions I like, they would probably get implemented, but, ultimately, what I put on my ships is my choice.

He's actually asking where you got the number from, rather than what tris are.
I guesstimate based on the intended size of the ship and a basic, fundemental number I won't go below, even for small craft like this, which is ~500 tris.
Why don't you go crazy with a high-poly mesh and add in all sorts of neat details(grounded in reality and with clear function), then bake that into a normal map and a lower-poly model? The extra details won't be lost thanks to the normal map and they will help inform the texturing as well.
I don't know how to do them. I know how to make a high poly and then set up a bake, but matching up the 2 different maps.........if someone wouldn't mind doin the normal mapping after I model, it wouldn't be a problem, but I have more experience with bump mapping (I'm a space artist who specializes in planets, so I've made a LOT of bump maps)
Just lettin' you guys know, I'm goin' on vacation for about 2 weeks startin' tomorrow, so not much work will get done.
And that's different from before . . . how?
If only I could cut your fingers off...
If only you'd do me the favor of trying.
I don't understand, how does that make sense? what lecter just said?
alloh, why the fuck does aeolus get it? They're not affiliated with serco in any way.
more likely BioCom would get it.
more likely BioCom would get it.
Nobody's gonna get it.
*Rises from vacation-induced coma*
I would prefer if the Serco THEMSELVES get any Serco ships I design, and the Itani get any Itani ships I design. The Serco and Itani are both fully realized, sovereign nations, with fully developed economies, and need to stop relying on the UIT for their ships
