As many of you know, I have a guild where all the members names are "Defense Ship [+#]." While I wasn't the first to hook up the DS name, I was the first to make it into a guild. Among my members, I have a guy by the name of "Defense Ship 7" (stick). I feel it needless that the purpose of the guild is to be generally "good" (positive "karma" reputation, helping transports, attack pirates, etc.)
Another character has created "Defence Ship 7" and proceeded to be a "generally bad" character. This includes nuke exploiting (both station and issues*) with the apparent attempt of giving the "Defense Ship" guild a bad name. I would ask that this sort of name spoofing stop.
Edit: Exploit explanation deleted and bug-reported. But then again, I'm using the word "exploit" very loosely, as FM has specifically said that the current "station-nuke exploit" is not really an exploit but an unintended consequence of the current coding (or lack thereof).

multiple players have witnessed the ctions of said guild (no naming names), and i have a hunch who ds7 (evil) may be normally.
i second SC on the request that this person delete the char and stop being such an annoyance.

Just to add to what Camps stated in his editted post: I did review what he wrote initially and did not feel that he described an actual exploit. Its certainly not a bug - if anything it's a manufacturing defect of the spacecraft! Damn defense contractors. At any rate, I wasn't planning on deleting it, but I do appreciate that he chose to edit it anyway.
After much "tux and martini" intrigue, I gained the identity of "Defence Ship 7." I talked with a confidante about what to do with the information, and since the FM said the devs will not accept logs as proof, I decided that there can be no action taken by the devs against name spoofers (further cemented in my mind by the non-statement of the FM in his above post to the subject of my post). Thus, I have decided to merely expose the identity of the spoofer to the ire of the community, for better or for worse.
And "Defence Ship 7" is *drumroll* Blitz! I logged on a dogmatic character and proceeded to attack everyone in it, and quickly gained his trust. I stated that I was Gold 2 (for those of you from 3.1, you should remember my character), and he eventually told me that he was Blitz. Here is the log, for y'all's viewing.
To Blitz: I'm really disappointed that you'd do something like this, but nothing I can say will change your actions, so I'd rather have the community deal with you, for good or ill, I cannot say.

The obvious solution to your problem is to realize that you do not in any way own the variations of the name "Defense Ship", stop complaining, and to do away with any sort of tag or group naming system that could lead people to believe that someone who is not a member of your group is.

The devs have not given me specific guidelines regarding name-spoofing, so there you have it. The devs make the rules. Spoofing a guide or dev will get one in trouble however.
A software solution that would consider all the possible methods of name-spoofing before granting a character name would be a time-intensive undertaking.
PLEASE don't post the logs. BTW, I said PLAYER logs are not acceptable proof. The devs have access to the server logs, which are totally accurate. Tell them the date/time of the incident if you want them to look at the logs.

My point was to have some proof acceptable to other community members, and since player logs have been posted before, I thought I would do it, not to prompt the devs to take some course of action, but to prove to everyone else my point.

Defense Ship # chars are in no way owned by the DS guild. Who cares if he made a false char, just make a list of "true" DS out there and then you don't have to wonder who is in the DS guild and who's just using the name.
