There are caps on everything. They're just not set correctly, so.. yeah. It's a mess, I know.

I miss the bass. I have a pretty decent 2.1 set, and let me tell you, the old bass was awesome. It's actually quite hard to just "turn the bass up" if there is no bass there to begin with.

Just a note. It's VERY easy to take something away in sound, but very hard to add it. Put the bass back and let all those people who were complaining just turn it down a notch, k?

The slider sounds like the best idea of all though.

Definately needs more bass!!!!

What happened to my nice Earthly Summer Billboard...Its gone ;(. The other ones looks good too but that ones was my favorite on of all times.

[Draco]: you can still see a screenshot of it on my site at http://independence.alturl.com ;)

Who says it's gone? There might be a new one...

The earthly summers billboard may return soon. The economy is messed up and the numbers need a lot of tweaking. It kind of has a lot of random values right now, as it was released under a sort of "oh, woops, I guess the economy is dynamic now!" situation. Waylon will be happy to hear you all love his stations, I agree, they rock. He also made all the signage. I actually came up with the idea of the signage and ranted about pictures of Tokyo, Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Blade Runner, and various other concepts to him. Then he came up with a cool way to do it that doesn't require much texture memory (which the "earthly summers" type unique signs do). We'll probably expand on the signage thing in some ways, we both have some more ideas.

I "hear" you on the bass thing (hhehhaeherm..<cough>). I don't want to make a "selectable bass" option or anything.. at least not right now. That would take valuable programmer time from other, more important projects. I will be redoing the sound in general, though. I like bass, as you guys have probably noticed, and I think it lends authority to the feel of blasting through space. But, I probably go a bit overboard at times :). I mostly do effects engineering wearing my sennheiser HD-590 headphones that have a pretty scary dynamic range, and obviously don't make the windows rattle. So, I'll have to test a bit more with normal speakers and stuff. I think the turbo noise is kinda wussy now, as well, but I also just don't like a lot of other aspects of it.. and it needs to be redone from scratch. (as do the laser noise and explosion and other old effects that predate my working on sound). I didn't think my ambient station sound was too bassy. I'm kind of amazed that my effects blew someone's headphones out (heheh, sorry!). Anyway, feel free to continue to give me feedback on all of that, the sound stuff you like and don't like (in a different thread, perhaps).

Anyway, thanks for all the compliments, guys :). Glad you're all enjoying it and are as excited about the progression as we are. Bear with us on the economy thing, we'll get that straightened out, but it'll probably be a time of trial-and-error in the meantime. Things will get more complicated as we add NPC traders and all that.

The Stations could of been a lot better if it was writtin in Japanese or Korean.

How dare you diss Waylonics!
Nov 02, 2003 Eldrad link
Tilt, that would take up a lot more memory. The idea of waylonics from my interpretation of Incarnate's post is that there are few enough characters that can be used repeatedly to compose hundreds of signs without increasing the size of textures. Not to mention trying to decipher waylonics is much more entertaining than recognizing that it was some existing language.

P.S. yay for Incarnate's love of base.

incarnate: have you noticed the ticking in the turbo sound now? is that just where it loops, or is it in the sample... its now driving me insane.
Nov 02, 2003 Tilt152 link
I thought it wouldent because it would just be in the texture(or picture).

but I doubt it would happen.
Nov 02, 2003 Arolte link
mcnut: I think there's a bomb in your engine. I don't hear any ticking on mine.
Nov 02, 2003 Sovereign link
i hear a ticking sound on my system too. mcnut, what OS do you use?
Nov 02, 2003 Arolte link
Okay cross that. I noticed the popping sound too. But for some reason it's not on the bus engines. Ahh well. I think since it's being redone we won't have to worry about it for long.

Well since i haven't replied to this thread yet i'll just answer the original question. What did I think of 3.3.5?

Well first of all, devs i'm very impressed and think the wait was worth all the new architectural designs and new stations and the like. But I am dissapointed by the fact that, graphics at this point in time in the game, really don't matter to me. Gameplay items such as the dynamic economy and new weapons and ships i think are more important to test out than graphics. Granted you need to have a good looking weapon but wouldn't that be more of a finishing project. Otherwise I dunno, you are the guys working on this thing so if your just going in the order which is most efficient and profitable *even though you probably don't make a profit off this right now* than that's fine.

thanks
