npcdef bots insane with power

skyfox,

hop in a valk triflare or a vult twinflare.

step1:
go to one of the enemies homesectors

step2:
when entering hit directly x, if there is an enemy defense bot in range, start boosting away from it so that the shootingdelay doesnt screw with you. If nobody there, just wait and wait.

step3:

1 minute later you will see a red dot advancing towards your position. press x and target it, then wait and hang still untill it is at a range of 600m. Shoot 2 tripple rockets. Or if you are in a vult, shoot from 800m, 3 double rockets. Afterwards when he is at 300m, start doing a little sidebarrelroll

step4:

immediately press x again and hope that there was nobody right behind him, if there was, shoot as fast as possible 3 rockets in its direction. If not, just repeat step 1 to 4 :D

step5:

go and refill ammo and repair after a max of 8 kills "I was out of ammo at that time :D".

step6:

wow you just killed a max of 8 defense bots, nice going man ;)

PS: I hope this helps. Im just using the dumbness of the bots flying into my rockets. They dont even try to go left or right, they just boost to get as fast as possible allong side of me, thats the price they have to pay for their infinite boost :D

Yes, i know how to do that. I've used that method before as a good way to get a higher score. :)

My problem is, when capping, you've got to A) blow up the bots in sec 12/4/6, race through the sector and into 2, blow up the bots that are right on top of you in sec 2 (trying to kill those bots with sunflares becomes less effective at that kind of proxemity, as they'll probably kill you after you've killed to first one.), destroy those bots, (by this time you are really running low on flares) and then make like hell for the 12/6/4 gate before they respawn. Then you have to kill off the bots who have by now come back (with what? you are practicly out of missiles), then make for safe space.

When you have more then 5 people, the fight gets to be a close quarters one, and then the bots simply own with their superweapon. If the weapon was a little less powerfull it would make more sence to use teamwork and lots of help to wipe those bots out.

Quite simply it would make a more fair fight if they had a less powerfull weapon and a longer respawn time.

you do not need to kill them. Stealing is sometimes more effective than robbbing.

skyfox, this is the tactic of the people defending you as the capper.

they need to try to get the attention from the bots off off you.

You only need to fly as quickly as humanly possible to the exit :D. And only in huge threat you need to fire a couple of sets of rockets.

Maybe for this a hornet can come to use, because they can kill defense bots with 1 shot of 4 rockets. Naturally, you are death if they all turn at you, due to the hornet being a to big target to miss by their weapons. But if they come at you 1 bye 1, then you can kill 16 bots. What helps a lot, especially if you can have some additionally back up.

Naturally this only works if you only have got the defense bot to worry about. Once people come into play, it gets more irritating :(, not to say impossible.

uh just to let ya know crazy spence, not to long ago me and another person on my team, i think it was Durgia, went it *just the both of us* to the gold teams sectors. it took us not more than 5 minutes to get the flag and get out of the sectors, in fact we didn't die the entire time and i eventually got back to my home sector and put the flag in and got 1 mil. Plus there was one human defender shooting at me, and i was in a vult. Either i was really really lucky or i am just uberl33t :D. I mean it's harder to get the flag than before but it's not impossible, it just takes some advanced planning and tactics. The bots although hard could still be harder than now.

Were you using rockets or mines to accomplish this, Jm262? Keep in mind that rockets and mines are by far the easiest weapons to use, especially against bots. Once rockets get balanced out (assuming they ever will), let me tell you that it's a helluva lot harder to kill bots without 'em. Try using tachyons or gravitons instead.

(My First Post!!! YEY!!!)

I guess capping isn't impossible, but its freaking hard for players like me (who stay in the noob stage forever...)

Why not give the DEFBOTs regular weapons, and just double (or triple) the amount of DEFBOTs? Therefore it will be easier to kill the bots... yet it still provides a formidable challange. Its not fun when 3 or 4 shots kill you...

The crux of the matter is that we used to have a very compelling CtF race and now we don't.

Without CtF there's no goal-oriented team activity. Deathmatches, duels and trading are all fun but they feel hollow without a greater team objective.

I strongly feel that Vendetta ought to have reasonable CtF right up until the moment that the mission system can replace it as a means toward exciting competition between the nations.

Arolte, I had rockets but that's not the point, i probably could've gotten out of the enemy sector with lazers since we were very well coordinated, i got halfway out of the enemies 2nd home sector before i got any resistance. Rockets or not the bots aren't too... hard. IMO
Nov 10, 2003 Durgia link
Just to add something to Jm's post he had rockets I had energy...we took the flag against the bots and one defender and had a total of 15% damage between us. I was at 100% he was at 85% both in vults, Jm262 carried.

Also to you new people to capping...I train most people that ask me...so ask me sometime :) I can show you a few simple tactics that let you distract bots/destroy bots/ avoid bots...etc

NPCDEF bots were made very strong to compensate for their stupidity, as has been pointed out. And, as far as they goes, they've succeeded in making the home sectors safer for new players. We intend to give them a more normal weapons loadout and capabilities, once they're a little smarter. Unfortunately, the AI work was shelved to try and solve the "money bug" issue.. which led to the server rewrite.. which is still in process. We will hopefully get back to the AI behaviour sometime soon, and make them harder to exploit but less "artificially" superior (longer respawn time, etc). One thing at a time, however.

ok, I know the ctf stuff is going to phase out and all so you're probably just going to respond with silly stuff like "oh the ctf stuff is only temporairy anyways so we'll leave it the way it is" but I dont care, the future stuff isnt here right now and the current defense bots are insanely hard, 2 nations right now couldnt cap 1 flag in an hours time and until the new stuff is in the game, we're all very very bored. you can only sit in s9 for so long and shoot at eachother before you think "hmm, i could be scratching my nails down a chalk board right now" now, i have a few temporairy suggestions:

1: there are 12 def bots for each nation....every time a player logs on, one def bot should go offline, so 12 or more players, no def bots, makes sense, why use bots to replace the jobs of humans right?

2: make them stay dead longer so if an all out attack was launched we'd atleast have a slight chance to escape with our lives

3: or just give them regular guns instead of capital ship turret weapons maybe they wouldnt be so damn invincible then.

I don't like ranting, but I'm sure the other 7 people who tried to cap that flag for an hour feel the same way

Sorry you are so frustrated. The work right now is in preparing for the next update "soon". Your suggestions would make ctf easier, but would take time away from the real work of adding features to get Vendetta closer to being a finished product. Interesting things are coming. Please see the "In Progress" page. I would suggest that you do what many people do between updates for other pre-production games: take a break, do something else, check back in later.

if i had things to do id be doing them, as would millions of other people and the internet would be uneccesairy because we'd all be out doing things heh.

i like that logon idea thingy.
did you mean that any player that logs on
gets one def.bots taken away from all teams.
or was it only from that players team?

Hey! I suggested to a1k0n to put in valks with tri frigate guns, lucky he didn't.
Nov 07, 2003 fenix link
defbots should only be on when players from a particular nation are not.
Nov 10, 2003 The Kid link
you don't even need warheads.

NPCDEF bots are insane with power but they're also insanely stupid. trick them.
and if you have bots going offline per player, what about teams that get fake accounts from other team coming on? For Example, 12 afkers on blue by using 13 accounts (1 actually playing gold or red to cap blue) and then capping easier than ever.

additionally, the defbots (especially in the respective backyard sectors, i.e. 4, 6, 12) are meant to be a protective force for newbs.
we have witnessed what it's like when you can home in s12 while not being Serconian. i for my part do not want to witness newb-slaughters because of the lack of defbots.

so i say nay.
