Magus: Where else would I ask? In game questions get answered with a dual gauss blast.

Just wondering if anyone could compare it intelligently. A friend who played Jumpgate said that this looked 'like the next Jumpgate'. HAving never played JG myself and never trusting just one opinion on anything, I decided to ask the board.

hrrrmmm. Arolts does have a good point. I'm hopeing GREAT distictions will be made between the races this next time, other than the one "special" ship that makes or breaks the race.

What about going the Diablo route and differentiating them by their path to excellence?

Serco distinguish themselves through battle, and it doesn't matter if you explore the whole universe, because the High Command doesn't give a damn. However, if you find a source of Xithricite (used in the manufacture of arms and armor), you will be rewarded. Attempting to create alliances will result in charges of treason.

Itani can distinguish themselves through exploration and diplomacy. If you're the greatest trader on the face of Itania, the Exploratory Command won't care. However, if you are the key to a military victory, you'll get a bit of notice. Disrupting enemy trade will get you punished.

Neutrals can distinguish themselves through trade and commerce. Diplomacy and exploration are only as useful as the trade goods they result in. Military intervention is a threat to power and will result in expulsion from the traders' league.

"Military intervention is a threat to power and will result in expulsion from the traders' league."

Ah, but what if you get paid a sh*tload of money to do it? Or are bounty hunters/mercenaries not considered part of the Neutral Territories?

I am a Serco. The internal affairs of their weakling government do not concern me.

//I don't know.

Really, how i see the NT is a bunch of traders, bounty hunters, and free angents (such as my self). ive never played jumpgate... actually... what am i doing posting some shit.

Exactly. But humans are communal beings, and this nature is best expressed in the tendency to group and/or communicate with others. If there is a system of free and capable agents, that system will be more influential if it forms a 'trade guild' or union.

/IC In any case, your system is weak because you lack guidance from a force greater than yourself, and lack cohesion.

When a Serco calls for help, and it is no dishonor to do so if one is outnumbered, his clanmates, and many fellow Serco will come and help.

When an Itani calls for help, the number of people responding varies according to the following formula:
((X-Y-Z-A)/5)+N=R

R is the number of Itani players who respond.
N is the number of Neutral Territories players within 1 jump of the battle scene. Only apply this variable if the player calls for help on open chat.
X is the number of Itani players online
Y is the number of Itani players online who are Newbies.
Z is the number of Itani non-newbie players online who dislike the player calling for help
A is the number of Itani players online who are more than 1000m from the scene of battle.

When a Neutral calls for help, it's like yelling underwater. Nobody hears you, and if they do, they don't care.

neutrals help each other,
even if they are more than 1000m away.

O witty retort! O point-by-point beatdown! O factual sources and solid argument, why have you abandoned this poor soul?

meh.

ok, what does this all have to do with Vendetta vs. Jumpgate?
Nov 20, 2003 ctishman link
Well, I guess we got a little off-track, to put it lightly. What I meant to say was that generally speaking, it'd be very nice if Vendetta truly differentiated itself from every other space-game. Be that a different focus of gameplay, or something completely unexpected, when it comes to space games, it's pretty much all been done before from a realistic standpoint. That said, Vendetta has this great opportunity to go somewhere new without a publisher breathing down your neck about sales figures. If the game is there, the publishers will call YOU.

aaaaand we're done. In the future, please keep the rhetoric to "Role-Playing".

Jumpgate seems to be the closest approximation to vendetta that I can find, although I never actually played JG. Has anyone here played it, and if so, how does Vendetta's gameplay compare?

And yes, I know this is far from a completed game. However, the basic physics and fighting elements seem to be in place.

And this needed its own thread because. . . . . . . .

/me waits for the iminent post saying that actually no, the physics and the fighting elements will probably change alot because "Vendetta is a TEST"

I don't know if its possible to run this game off of an windows emulation. If it did, would probably work slow though.

That game has been there for like 3 years now.
