Flechette cannon

The reason it feels like the flechette is firing longer is because it shoots faster than the tach. But their energy consumption is about the same. Slightly worse in a normal charging battery.

Rog, it will only be good against bots while they lack intelligence. At the moment if any shot comes near them they stop turboing.

Phaserlight, turn of the auto aim of the tach and you get a similar lucky shot effect at med ranges. That does more damage than the flechette.

Phoenix, there is no situation where the flechette would be more deadly than the tach. If there is an incoming rammer you would be about 1.44 times better off with a tach.

As for the energy statistics, I didn't time anything I just believed the numbers that are given. If they're in accurate someone should probably thoroughly test it then bug report it.

Just because a weapon is new doesn't mean it has to be the best weapon out there. In my personal opinion we should give the flechette a week or so for the hype to wear off before talking about giving it a boost. First off, (not that it really makes a difference) the flechette is a relatively cheap weapon. Also, it's faster than any other energy weapon (unless you count rails) and has the second highest refire rate of any weapon. The wide spread is useful for getting in lucky shots when you're locked in a barrel roll waltz with another fighter. Giving it more damage may make it too powerful.

The tryed a gatling cannon with fast ammo consumption on there test server.

The server went phzzzt.

I like it as it is. My dual flechette single flare valk was dominating today.

I think it should be ammo based - It would eat it quickly though, so you could buy maybe 10000 rounds at a time or something, and it would fire 10-20 per second. Just a thought to put in if the need arises.

" Question is, what do we do with the normal gatling now?"

Write a strongly worded letter to the TGP corp about how much their products suck.

The flec is pretty good although it could use a slight boost. Very slight. A tad bit more damage or a few more flechettes per shot (ala the Locus swarm) would be nice. Or, we could use my idea in which one in 5 flechettes is explosive. So when it hits, it makes a small boom. Nothing big, just 100-150 extra damage.

First impressions?

Great concept! Basically, it's a fast (190m/s) and effecient (8 eu) energy weapon with a high refire rate (0.090s) that has a very wide spread and low damage (250). Very neat graphical effects. I like the way it shoots sparks when you fire and leaves a puff of black smoke when it hits. I'm sure everyone will be using these until the hype dies down, then maybe we can talk about balancing.

Wow, four of them in a hornet drain a fast charge battery in about a second or so...

Well, it fits the role of 'small gatling gun' that several people have mentioned.

It certainly doesn't seem over powerful. Beyond 50m or so its quite inaccurate. It doesn't quite however have the 'shotgun' effect I was hoping for, but this makes use of existing 'spray' code without the need for something new.

The graphical effects are quite cool.

OK so a 'Flechette' is a small piece of ammunition, usually encased or even a case that breaks up into smaller pieces, ala shotgun type effect from a smaller weapon.
The point im eventually gettin to is that its a projectile weapon not energy.

I'm thinking a large version of this might be useful. But then again, we have the adv. gatling. Question is, what do we do with the normal gatling now?
