ooh! Make the color of hot pink!
Nov 27, 2003 Sheean link
How`s about making the in-sector chat lighter (or darker) colours of the player`s nations? So the nt would get light-yellow, the serco would get pink and the itani would get light-blue.
Nov 27, 2003 toshiro link
hm... light yellow and blue might not be recognizable when having a light background. also, i detest pink and wouldn't want to see my messages in pink :P
why not make it the same as the nation's colour and code it by different signs?
standard chat is recognizable by <name>, make it be #name# or something, that would solve it. i see the issue with abuse there (get yourself a name ith # around it to confuse those who don't read closely), but i think that would be a minor problem.

right now it is green
(in green) <Suicidal Lemming> Blah!

I think it should be name in nation color the rest in green
(in blue) <Suicidal Lemming> (in green) Blah!

I think it should be in plaid.

Or a randomly chosen color.

Or an animated effect...where waves of color ripple across a randomly chosen base color.

Howabout...orange. Nothing's using that. The race of the person will be in parens.

<SirCamps (Itani)> Greetings all in 7.

I think we need a maroon color. That would work well. Its got enough contrast from everything else, and its a cool color.
Nov 28, 2003 HumpyThePenguin link
Maroon for serco, Orange for the Neuts, and a lighter blue for Itani
Nov 25, 2003 raybondo link
Heh, yeah, i forgot to do that.

Actually in jumpgate you had to hit hte F3 key in order to get the sector chat.

Mabie if we can use the uppercase "S" key to just chat to the sector in vendetta, that would be appreciated.

I'm a lazy typer.
Nov 25, 2003 Suicidal Lemming link
S is used for toggle Stations on radar.
Nov 25, 2003 a1k0n link
But that's dumb. We should get rid of those default keybindings.
Nov 25, 2003 Magus link
Well, if someone happens to be hinding in the docks you could line yourself up with the S on radar and shoot flares at them so they don't see their signature on radar and get blown up before they can dock. If you get rid of that keybinding they won't be able to do it anymore.

On second thought, yes, get rid of those keybindings.

well say_sector is now able to be used in /bind and /alias commands. i'm changing all of my non hostile and kill messages over to sector now.. we still need a new color for sector only chat i'm thinking purple or orange..

(alternatively at some point when the devs are doing finishing touches.. an options menu for customizing chat colors would be nice :) )
Nov 24, 2003 SirCamps link
I love it.... but, it's useless.

Please, please, _PLEASE_ bind it to a key or enable it to aliases.

Especially when the DSG gets going, when I do a "hail enemy ship, back off," I don't want to torment the entire galaxy with the message, but only those in the immediate vicinity.

*begs* This would be so cool....
Nov 24, 2003 Skyfox link
Yes it does need to be bound. It takes too long to go /say_sector message. It should be bound sorta like the team is. How about option-t?
Nov 25, 2003 Celebrim link
I'm no expert in this, but I thought we could /bind things as needed?
Nov 25, 2003 Tilt152 link
that would be a cool idea too..

Or how about an in-range chat too?
Nov 25, 2003 IceD'Bear link
Make /say_sector default, and add something like /say_all.
Nov 25, 2003 Archon link
Uhhhuhuhhh…this is already possible.
Just bind /say_sector to a key, dumbit.

/alias say_sec "say_sector"
/bind (insert key of choice here) say_sec

That should do it.
