Why does every page of the forum want me to load flash? Get with the times. You guys pretty much only update the cellphone version anymore, that shit doesnt use flash, why does your website for no reason?

Eh? Only the front page wants me to load it. Cos of the silly out of date video that is not html5 compliant. No other pages request a flash plugin load? You got viri dude?

There are no ads to block, so how is that helpful?

The plural of virus is viruses.

Actually, we don't have any flash at all. The youtube video on the front page loads with html5=1 (although I can't speak to how compliant google may be). I don't have flash installed on my desktop, and have no issues using FireFox (which has no internal flash engine).

The only other things going on are Google Analytics for website usage tracking, etc. But that isn't flash either.

I also get prompted occasionally to update flash when visiting this website... IIRC on safari and firefox, always found it odd.

The front page? Or going directly to another page, like the forums?

I don't know what kind of weird detection/preference stuff the YouTube link does on the front page.

I see this on basically every page. My guess is, it's the swfobject.js library that's loaded inside every page's head tags, trying to detect flash.

genka is correct, I also get the same.

You know, Chrome is also available for linux. Stop using the shitty obsolete firefox browser so damn much and fucking switch to chrome already. Chrome has flash built-in EVEN ON LINUX, so you won't be getting that silly popup. Because such a simple solution exists, it's not worth bothering Inc about.

Also, Chrome's built in web developer tool is 10000000000 times better than firefox's shitty worthless firebug. Why the fuck are you idiotic freaks wasting your lives groveling through life on firefox?

You work for google lad?
Nov 04, 2015 joylessjoker link
Nope, capt'n, i'm not affiliated with google in any way. See the problems kids in this thread are having with firefox? Solid evidence that firefox is a steaming pile of shit. It's making web devs waste ungodly amount of time fixing stupid things, just like IE.

Perhaps if you paid attention you would notice im using windows. Way to rage. Also chrome is a steaming pile of buggy shit on basically every os. Ever bother to compile it, or do you just use the prebuilt binary some poor fuck had to make work?

You rather missed the entire point of this thread as well. It has nothing to do with browser choice, it has to do with a page with no apparent flash widgets trying to load flash.

A built in barely maintained almost flash sounds a hell of a lot more dangerous than one that gets updates damn near daily. Stop fanboying, you make us look bad.

EDIT: My apologies, after looking over your post history, you are obviously just a fool. Want me to knit you a fancy hat?

Can you guys take the hyperbole down a notch? I really don't care what browser you're using, but it's possible to both advocate and defend without being quite so virulent.

So, when I try removing that swfobject.js library, it causes the navigation sidebar to stop working. Obviously it doesn't require flash (I regularly use it with non-flash browsers), but there is some kind of orthogonal dependency here. I can't really look into it right this second.

The pop-up you guys are seeing is obviously only an issue for those with out-of-date Flash plugins installed client-side, who are also using Firefox. So, it only impacts people who do have flash, but it's out of date, and they're using FF. Personally, I just disable flash entirely on FF, but, YMMV.

Non-flash browsers would never see these kinds of errors.

Inc, we could start a thread about underwater basket weaving and a forum war would break out kver a difference of opinion.

Wait. Hold the frickin' horses.

Is this fresh-water or salt-water basket weaving?
Nov 04, 2015 joylessjoker link
Adobe is slowly killing off flash and encouraging the world to phase it out in favor of html5/JS, but it's not really happening anytime soon because netflix, hulu, etc etc are too insolent, obtuse, and slothful to make ANY kind of change to their platforms. Hulu especially just HAS to irritate everyone by FORCING them to watch ads EVEN if people are paying for subscriptions. That dumb ad system.

yeah the overreacting in this thread is definitely not limited to a single person, definitely not. Better to lay the blame over everyone.
