yes, i'd love to see this content on non VR. use the mouse to point where you would look with the VR gear?

Any way to see how many % of the playerbase use (or even have used) VR at any point? The people I regularly meet in space don't seem to use it a lot. Or are too shy to talk about it.

I have a gear VR. Went out and bought a controller when I first read the VR support announcement. Honestly it's what got me interested in VO.

Looking at the picture I cant tell, but will the ships all be to scale in the hangar when you're in VR? Is it a static room or will you be moving around in it

That is pretty awesome. Over the long term, will those hangers be colored by faction? That one seems overly white at the moment.

Is this a VR-only feature? How about adding some bindable controls to let us do this w/o VR? We've been asking for that for years.

Yeah, it would only take two more axes to be able to steer your view independently of your ship. Conveniently, most humans have two feet, and pedals are a thing. Not to mention non-VR head-tracking systems.

Seconding this. Most people don't have a VR device to enjoy this sort of scenery, but I'll say that even that fixed-perspective hangar shot would go a looong way towards a proper station UI overhaul.

I think the reason this isn't getting more attention than it has is because as a whole, the player base is not very excited about VR specific development at the expense of development across the existing platforms we already have.

I am not a Star Citizen backer or player, but when I look at the video below and see what is effectively an almost-VR immersive implementation without requiring VR hardware, it's hard to get excited about VR specific development that I will probably never see as a Linux user.

In the video above, we can see an interactive hanger, full-featured cockpit, and realistic looking weapon fire.

I understand that a lot of the next-gen work is targeted at promotion chasing these next-gen implementations, but I worry that the return on the development being poured into it is not going to provide any real long-term improvement in game-play because 6 months from now companies with more resources and funding are going to overshadow everything VO has done with its first-implementation development. Then we'll be back at square 1 chasing whatever the new next-gen implementation is while the game-play enhancements to dynamic economy, faction expansion, and other changes that the players have been eagerly anticipating and asking for are again pushed to the back burner for the next big promotional opportunity.

Given the amount of simple value tweaks that have been left unchecked or unconsidered over the past 6 months which could have had an enormous impact on gameplay (much bigger than VR ever will).

It's hard to even see any excitement in VR. Sure, it might be nice to pilot from VR devices, but it won't change the fact that there's a hard limit on progression and many of us have now reached it (and then some).

Respectfully, I don't think you know what VR specific development is at the expense of.

I'll only say that personally I am very excited to see VO headed in this direction.

This is argumentum ad consequentiam. If you're unhappy that VO is focusing on VR development, say so, but why not leave out the bold predictions?

To put it another way: companies that "overshadow everything VO has done" 6 months from now doesn't mean pouring resources into VR today won't result in long-term improvement.
