*** Vendetta 1.8.380
These changes are for PC (Win/Mac/Linux) platforms only and will be released for the remaining platforms in a future update.
- New user-selectable fonts for PC platforms, with the new default font set to 'Play-Bold'. Fonts can be selected at Options -> Interface -> Font
- New UI skin called 'Platinum' and it is now the default for PC platforms. The old skin can be set at Options -> Interface -> Skin
- New option to enable first-person warp/jump/launch animations located at Options -> Game -> Cinematic Camera Mode
- Performing 'Activate' will continue certain missions if there is only a 'Continue' button and nothing else to activate.
- Y-B gamepad chord added to open the jettison menu by default.
- Added a shadow behind HUD Notification text for better legibility.
- The blinking docking bay arrows are now angled inwards for easier head-on visibility.
- New head-based flight models for VR.

FYI, we had to hold back a few things for more development and testing, along with platform variations, and we still have a lot of background and engine changes going on in this same patch.

Please let us know if you see anything broken?

First person warp was pretty cool, can't wait to see it in a VR headset.

There are a couple fonts that will apply correctly, but if you go back to the options menu shows that you have default selected.

Michroma & Orbitron were the two I noticed.

Also couple of suggestions:

I don't remember there being a change in text scaling between the HUD and PDA, wish it stayed consistent.

At the default scaling, if you play at a lower windowed resolution, a lot of the text in the HUD is too condensed to easily read, can be fixed by adjusting the manual text scale. But maybe the scale can just automatically enlarge itself a bit upon the change in video settings for a lower windowed resolution.

Hrmph. I found that and reported it to Ray some time ago, he said he had fixed it. Well, it's been a complicated release process. Thanks, we'll sort that out.

So there seems to be a difference in how scaling works between the HUD and PDA now? I don't honestly think we changed that. At least, not that I'm aware of. But we've changed a hell of a lot of stuff, so accidental side-effects are entirely possible.

For those who can't wait to see the new effects before Friday on mobile

Cheat sheet, most of the video is trying every font option

At 7:20 I try the new Jump/Warp First Person view

Just waiting for my vid to upload, but 1st person storm warping, and storm roid warping is a little bit eugh (might make you puke on VR, but I dunno). Also you can no longer chat while warping. Will edit this post when my vids done.

So, at least three of the fonts are missing right now (all the ones that just revert to "default").

Also, not all of the fonts will behave the same way when scaled way down. The old "default" is actually heavily customized, where low-rez fonts were bold, but high-res fonts were not, so it would bold up the font as it got smaller to make it more readable.

The new fonts are just straight-conversions. So if you're using a low-res window display, you may want to choose a specific font based on that, like a bold font, etc.

Readability is also very dependent on the type of screen, resolution, etc. On the GearVR, the DejaVu Sans is faar better than any of the others. But on the PC/monitor, it isn't necessarily better at all.

So, at the moment, it's just more options to give people a little more power to tweak. Especially given modern 2.5k, 4k and 5k monitors that are out there.

It was specifically designed for VR, and I don't think it's bothersome? We'll see what others think. It's obviously not the most amazing effect, but we had to try and do something really lightweight, as VR is super performance-dependent. So it's the simplest.. interesting.. thing I could come up with.

Also you can no longer chat while warping.

You can definitely chat while warping on VR. If we broke something related to that, we'll have to check it out.

Not in first person, you cannot. While the warp transitions to the new scene, the chatbox closes (it really isn't the biggest problem, just thought I would point it out). Anyway, here is the vid!

First Person Ion Storm (including a roid warp)

Another few issues:

1) When warping in first person, the radars display "front" and "rear" even with this text disabled
2) Sometimes the prompt to "press the activate key to enter the wormhole" appears when you are nowhere near the wormhole or jump point.
3) Ships seem a lot lot darker to me, even if I am in a relatively bright sector. See screenshots @ http://voshots.wwwd.name/

Guess I should make a bugs thread, instead of spamming this one!

Ok, well, last I actually tried chatting while warping in VR, it worked fine. It was a design-requirement to be able to chat while jumping. Something may have broken generally with the effect, or specifically when this was brought to non-VR. We'll take a look at that, and the other issues you've reported.

Overall I like it though! Even on non-vr it feels very very seamless. I know you have told others that the load times are the same, but it does feel faster too.

Great stuff! Now when do we get the 3D hangers? :D

Great stuff! Now when do we get the 3D hangers? :D

So, the "Hangars" are going to be at least viewable via a new "Fake-VR" mode, which is intended to be more of a preview than an actual usable play/control style (although some people might try it? I dunno, curious about feedback). The big downside is that, at present, right-mouse-button is totally allocated to being able to "look around". That's something we could adjust and tweak and let people configure, of course, it's just a hack for the moment to make the VR content something people can check out on a non-VR desktop.

As for when you'll be able to see that.. maybe Thurs or Fri? It was supposed to be in tonight's release, as of our meeting on Tues, but Ray ran into more issues than expected in testing, so it was cut to let us get the other stuff out there.

So, I imagine it'll be in the next feature-addition patch. Hopefully that'll make it out by Fri at the latest, unless we get saturated by bugfixes.

Glad you're liking the changes overall :).

I liked this change to, the only thing I really noticed was when travelling from Arta to Dau, the loading was extremely slow, I tried several time with the same result.
This did not happen wit any other wormholes, so keep it in mind, I sure others will confirm if it not only me having the issue.
Other than that, great work :)

I like the change to the arrows, based on what I saw in DJ's video. The skin looks nice too. I don't feel like I can form a valid opinion on the warp animation until I actually fire up the game and experience it first-hand, because I'm pretty sure it'll feel different when I'm directly controlling it vs. passively watching it in a video. I'm optimistic about it though.

Ok so i have found a few things that are broken with this update,

1. No zoom when you press "i" it just flickers
2. Some fonts are crashing my client, if you want crash logs i can send them in a ticket if need be, also its not certain ones its sporadically crashing when trying new fonts.

But apart from that i think its a awesome update, well done guys and keep up the good work.

Funny thing happens when you enter the /fps command.

FPS data are displayed, as usual, on the top of your screen but in a 100pt size font covering like 1/8th of your entire display.

heh Inc, do you plan to support unicode in future?

Interesting update, a few issues to fix but we are on to it from our end.

One minor thing, the HUD text boxes for "please use a wh" etc are black rather than translucent , a minor cosmetic bug for the list.

I see you added head based flight models for VR. I was wondering if you guys had any plans to support Track IR so us pc players can get some of that action?

that being said have you guys looked into devices like trackir?
