Report on the Goliath (main server)

Oct 29, 2016 Sieger link
With the recent update, the Goliath has been added to the main server as a NPC!

A few guildmates and I have gone to check out the Goliath today, launching a convoy, pinning it down and destroying the Goliath. Beforehand we observed its movement and reactions.

It seems the devlopers managed to succesfully iron out the issues that I watched with the Goliath on the test server. It sometimes cruised a bit jumpy - now that is gone!
The Goliath moved nice and quickly towards it course and flew smoothly like any other capital ship. It reacted accordingly to us attacking it and the shields dropped well. The PCB managed to hold it in place as it should. The explosion is very beautiful and I must say this thing is an armor beast!

As a conclusion I can say that the Goliath looks nice and smooth. Good job bringing it in so fast devs!

I hope to see the Goliath available to players soon. I bet I'm not alone in that!

This thread is intended to serve as a platform to post your Goliath-experience, maybe some pictures or videos, to say "good job" to the devs or report anomalies which we are not hoping for! As of now all looks good!

The turret placement (The thing everyone hated on player owned tridents) is genuinely well thought out on the Goliath. The armor is a nice touch and the shields are not as weak as I was expecting, overall I can say with certainty that the Goliath will be more than just a Mini Trident or hauler. The cargo space seems to a very low 300cu, which I myself won't complain about since I will admit that I am mainly hoping for a combat capable Capital Vessel and not oversized XC.

The thing that can ruin this for me, is if it is manufactured in the same way as the Trident Type M. I'm okay with the Goliath being "worse" than the Trident Type M, as long as I don't have to spend six months to a year making it. Hopefully, the Goliath should be a straight buy with high license requirements and a price tag to match instead of another manufacturing mission that requires VO becoming a second job. I think Six million credits and License 10/10/10/10/10 would be a good start.

As a bonus, this makes a death on VO a more severe thing for a Capital Ship pilot than let's say... someone flying around in an Atlas.

I do await the arrival of the Goliath... but would rather see it as a manufactured item like the tridents.

I see it more like a gunship like in a earlier post I suggested...

Being it is smaller than the trident it should have somewhat less building requirements. Yes I am building a trident and am close but would rather have a smaller manufactured ship as an support vessel.

I know larger guilds capable of building the tridents might not like seeing smaller guild building the goliath but if it happens to bad.

I think if it had less building requirements the building guilds econ would improve since more would be scampering for parts for this quicker build. Right now trident parts are cheaper than they where back in the day since no one want to build one unless they hate themselves like i do LOL.

I see:

Smaller guilds rising up
Powers shifting actions
Economic changes
more conflicts

All of these would make a more playable dynamic game... not the static power structure as it stands.

Glad to hear it's looking good and working well.

Things like shields, cargo capacity, and even mass may undergo some tweaking before final release as a playable ship. Plus, there may also be variants with different options.

I'm particularly glad to hear the turret placement is sound. I actually forced a re-design of the rear end, at one point, to make sure we had a location for a rear-facing turret (I know, a frequent criticism on the Trident), and then had the other turrets positions tweaked and had Curt do a couple of testing passes to try and get their locations as solid as possible out of the gate.

@Incarnate,
Can you give us filthy peasants some information on how a player might obtain a Goliath when they are released?

He is, scared star. Can't wait for the Goliath. I have been considering building it. Don't want to build the Trident though, because I don't have the time or patience to build it. But I'm excited!

It would be nice to have a pvp, pve and mining type capital ship. Its arrival is greatly anticipated,

The universe holds its breath for every detail about this ship! Primarily how it will be obtained! Give us a little early Christmas with a hint on this Inc?

Oh that can easily be provided in one word. The ship will be obtained via having lost our damned minds and gone INSANE.
