That "piece of shit" I have cost me 70 bucks you idiot, and I'm doing quite well with it. If you have some kind of aggressive aversion about people playing a sci-fi game with a trackball, and not how you think it should be played, I suggest you see a shrink.

Oh boy, guess you're one of those people who stubbornly does things the hard, inefficient way. It takes extreme skill to maneuver your ship accurately with a trackball in dogfights. It's simply not designed for this kind of task. By all means, if you want to lose every single fight without resorting to swarms or waste a good portion of your life investing insane amount of time into refining this skill, be my guest!

Whatevs mate, whatevs. You're a real original, aren't you?

We all need to take a step back. Surprisingly enough, there is more than one valid way to control a spaceship in VO. There are too many emotionally laden off-topic posts and a couple ad homs here; myself or another mod will likely be cleaning this thread up at a later time, and if things continue out of hand the thread may be locked.

I agree with you, Phaserlight! There are endless valid ways to pilot a ship. However some ways give you more accuracy and precision than others.

I was simply giving a newcomer some advice on the efficient/optimal way that would give him the most positive experience overall in VO without breaking his bank. Joysticks would also perform very well, but a gaming mouse is probably the most cost efficient. Some people have had good experience with gamepads, too.

If he insists on clutching on to his precious trackball, whatever. It's not something I'll lose sleep over. I've said my piece and I'll move on.

Estrian Prosis used a trackball and he was arguably one of the top 3 pvpers of all time. It's all about what you find comforting for your fine motor skills.
