Eli's thoughts on the Goliath.

I don't think it's wise to think of future capital ships as solutions to previous useless ones.

The Goliath, without bug abuse, can be outperformed by an XC at hauling, outperformed at mining by the Behemoth Heavy Miner and outgunned by a Marauder.

Except none of those ships have shield or can haul multiple dent parts. And the bhm2 is a heavy mining ship the Goliath is not a mining ship.

The point of a capship variant is it is different from the previous version of playable capship. So here are my thoughts. The power cell is exactly the same as the dent, 1/2 capacity and double the charge rate would suit its small and weak shielded design better. Weapons..... Now the fact it has a small cargo cap means it is useless as a cargo ship... Unless it is more defendable, the x3 heavy port was a good idea, making it at least semi defendable and a more versatile ship, visa vi mining or even queening. So to summarise, either make it more solid (then making it an inferior version of the type M) or make it more defendable. In either situation I think the power cell could use a rethink, I'm sure this is already in progress as the small/heavy cell update suggested.

It does have better defensive capabilities because the turrets are in great positions and it accelerates faster. Having more forward firing ports doesn't do much for defense, but I'm not saying I wouldn't like a couple more.

Yeah, rear capgauss on the goliath will either
A: keep PCB'ers out of range when trying to pcb
B: kill shit

@Inevitable
A shield that can be broken by a mid-sized, single transport fighter and a capacity to carry Trident parts only while exploiting a bug.

Actually, now I think about it if a dual flare Marauder can de-shield a Goliath then so can anything with two weapon slots, the Vulture, the Valkyrie, the Prometheus, the Centaur, the Hornet, the Raptor, the Wraith and even the Revenant, since Jackhammer rockets do more damage than flares you can also add, the Atlas and Warthog. Other notable ships that capable of deshielding the Goliath are: The EC 107, the EC 101 mk2 and the EC 101 Type B, still think that the Goliath's shields are still useful? When everything except the Trident Type M, Centurion, and low-end variants of the EC, can easily turn its shields to pudding.

I'm not against this ship being vulnerable to bombers, but the Goliath isn't even balanced with the ships that already exist, like ii said: The Goliath, without overstuffing, can be outperformed by every other ship that exists in VO. I said mining as well because I wanted to state how this ship excels at nothing.

(I'm going to log on and hope for some changes or at least a buff)
(LOL! My Goliath was just deshielded by two Dentek assaults)

Go Haul In Your Xc Then And Tell Me How It's Shields Hold up

Go haul in a Goliath and tell me how many dent parts you can carry without overstuffing.

aaronund makes a revealing statement, the Goliath can be deshielded by most ships in VO - apart from a trident.

How ludicrous is that? The trident is a frigate, ie a warship, supposedly the best thing a player can get.
