Several questions

Sep 30, 2017 clever_pseudonym link
Hello all,
This is my first post and I'd like to put out some questions: (android only)

1 if my ship is docked, can I instantly get into another ship at a different station? It seems that I have to fly to the other station...

2 how can enemy cap ships be destroyed? I've checked the specs on the wiki. When I shoot enemy frigates, for example in border skirmish, nothing seems to happen. I've tried blasters, missiles, and firing from friendly cap ships.

3 how do you make credits quickly? I've seen players referring to 1mil like it's nothing. Missions seem to pay out like 20 - 100 thousand for a thirty minute endeavour.

Thanks all

1- Nope. Sorry Kiddo.
2- How capships shields work is you need to continuously deal damage over an amount of time, which needs to be more than the shields recharge time. A quick way is stacking, ask in game about that one.
3- That depends on what you like to do :D

2. As danstr mentions, you have to deal a lot of damage quickly to "pierce" or "break" the shields. One way of doing this is by using energy-efficient weapons among several pilots in order to overcome the recharge rate. Another method is to "stack" missiles or rockets by using your turbo boost to match the missiles' speed so that they all land simultaneously. Both of these take practice; you will probably need a Hornet or a Ragnarok if you hope to take down a capship's shields solo.

3. 1 mil isn't nothing, but keep in mind some pilots have been around for a while (I've been playing for 14 years). The best way to earn credits is to find someone willing to pay you. Historically, some veterans have paid 20,000 credits per unit of Synthetic Silksteel. Let that sink in for a while. As your capital grows, find a way to manipulate the market or discover a niche in which you have a competitive advantage. This isn't easy and it takes much practice. A lot depends on who you surround yourself with.

Another method is to trade commodities or weapons between stations. I have a trade tutorial couplet here; it has some mistakes (notably, you don't have to launch from the station in order to see best system prices), but it should give you an idea of what trading on the dynamic market is currently like.

Thanks for the responses gents. It's funny. This game appears simplistic, at first glance. Upon looking closer, I find that complexity is right there. The seeming lack-of-diversity in weaponry is really just balance. I look forward to seeing you guys in game.

That trading thing Phaserlight mentioned is an okay way to make money, but buying low and selling high is for chumps. Profits are much higher if you skip the buying part and just source the cargo from a dead guy for free. To that end, it can be lucrative to learn how to manufacture dead guys. The recipe I use takes a cargo scanner, a neutron blaster, and an escort mission, seasoned with a healthy dose of backstabbery. Following this recipe in nation space tends to add a punishing aftertaste, so conduct all baking in greyspace for best results.

Not to be a party pooper but if you play Elite Dangerous or EVE Online you'll find that VO really is simplistic. Not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes you just want to hop on a ship and shoot at other players without jumping through hoops.
