Err.. "if you pay, you can post suggestions"

Dec 30, 2003 Urza link
I saw that something along those lines was posted, and let me say that i am strongly against that. I mean really strongly.

Every little suggestion helps. And not everyone can pay. Some people may have great ideas but not be able to post them.

I mean, i throw in my 2˘ and toss around a good idea every now and then (group chat, racing) but i dont know if i'll be able to front more than $5 a month, if that.

Well you could discuss it in game, and if someone with a I-have-paid-so-I-can-make-suggestions-account sees it and thinks: ¨ah, this is a nice idea¨ He/she could just say it anyway.

i agree with Urza. the benefits for paying should be merely cosmetical in nature, not gameplay advantages or other treats so you can feel superior to those who don't pay.

that way we could avoid some problems (there might still be people who will treat non-paying users with snide comments, but that is hard to stop).

I think Incarnate was trying to see what people would like in exchange for a donation. Now that we've established what you DON'T like, lets have some specific suggestions about what you would like.

I agree with Sam. There could be other advantages for payers besides accessing the suggestions forum. I mean why would seriously taken suggestions go to the highest bidder? I'd rather have a good suggestion be implmented from a guy who didn't pay rather than a bad suggested be implemented from a guy who did pay. Not just that... I mean some good suggestions are a combination of several little ones. I can understand the logic behind having to pay and therefore having a say in what the game should be like, but then again it's not anywhere near its final form. I think a lot of potentially good suggestions will be lost in the process.

While donators gave Guild Software money without expecting anything in return other than financial stability for the company, I think some of them may be feeling screwed over now that such extra privelages are given to people who would pay a monthly fee. I mean if they knew ahead of time, they probably would've held off on giving $20 in one lump sum and instead divided it into $5 a month with four payments and four months of access to the suggestions forum. Are donators SOL on this deal or will they benefit also?

I don't really know what to suggest in terms of additional benefits for payers versus non-payers. As I said, I think a guild system and ranking should only be accessible to payers. Those who don't pay won't have the benefit of having their stats be posted or viewable, and they can't join any guilds. These features obviously need to be implemented before they can be used though.

Well, with having the suggestion beeing paid-only, all you basicly have to do is convince some paid-only members to post the suggestion to the forum... if you can't convince anyone, the idea is probably quite worthless anyway.

No such thing has been decided. Please continue to make suggestions so that a something suitable can be decided upon.

Do you REALLY believe that past donations would be forgotten?

By supporting Guild now (or ever) you would almost become a sort of shareholder in the company. Not officially of course, but in spirit. Allowing a paying member to vote on some new in-game content would work, I suppose, but maybe only if said content wasn't game changing. Like if you donate enough, you get a station named after you, or you could submit a custom asteroid or model or something to be placed somewhere... or if they ever name the sectors you would be allowed to name a couple. Some tangible "I'm in this game" benefit that doesn't change the underlying nature of the game would be good.

We have too many threads going on this. I'm going to lock this one so that we can combine the "opposed" threads.
