Technique for Capping Solo

I thought I'd post what I've learned about these defbots and how to defeat them single-handedly.

Required ship:

Itani Valkyrie
Medium Engine
Fast Charge Battery
3x Sunflare Rocket Launchers

1. Go to the home sector of the enemy, evading the bots (either straight boost or going "around" the sector--your choice).

2. In home sector, fly around picking up the defbots numbered 2-6 (#1 doesn't do anything) until they're in a nice clump behind you about 600 meters back. Turn and fire 2- 3 rounds of triflares. This will kill the bots. The damage you receive depends on how well you dodge (I've survived unscathed and then at another time received 50% damage).

3. With the defbots dead, grab the flag and make your way to the next sector.

4. Wormhole-hop until you come out on the back end of the wormhole. Head the opposite direction and make your way around the sector to the wormhole.

5. Get out and go home.

most of that sounds relatively easy to do, but for step #4. What do you mean "wormhole hop until you come out on the back end of the wormhole"? How do you do that?
Jan 02, 2004 alienb1212 link
Um...you did know how to do this before now, didnt you camps?

Neh, you probably didnt, because as soon as you find out about something, you feel it fit to tell the world..heh.. poor boy

I can do it with a centurian. You need a valk? pfft..
Jan 03, 2004 SirCamps link
I'd like to see you do it in a Cent.

And no, apart from silentsuicide and scuba steve, I think I was the third to figure out solo-capping.
Jan 03, 2004 alienb1212 link
Heh...not anywhere close....heh that's funny.

A couple of us blue vets have known for a few months....heck, I was taught back when i was gold....

huh? u were gold?

I'm sorry but I have used the Centurion Tachyon Heavy Engine for solo capping long ago many times. I started when you could dock in enemy nation sectors with a certain bug.

You're also forgetting Blitz and dragons-reign who have known how to solo cap before the reset. Blitz with his own method. As you can see with the ship setup I have, I have my own method as well.

Your method is as good as any other though (it's similar to Blitz's). Just wanted to know you're not actually third. :P
Jan 03, 2004 Blitz link
Now everyone abuses MY method. Bah.
Jan 03, 2004 Zeplin link
Lots of us can solo cap, I can name at least 6 Itanis that havnt posted and can solo cap. diffrent techniques from what has been posted.
The New bot scheme only made it easyer to solo cap. 1 less bot to deal with.

Hell there are 6 of on just on the first page of the statistics.
Also, kinda silly to post a technique on a message board So the other teams can see.
Jan 03, 2004 Archon link
I just tried that technique.. didn't work at all. I couldn't get the bots far enuff behind me to turn and fire.
SirCamps "4. Wormhole-hop until you come out on the back end of the wormhole. Head the opposite direction and make your way around the sector to the wormhole."
What I believe SirCamps is implying here (correct me if I'm wrong) is that you go through the wormhole [i.e. from 1 - 4], pop back through [i.e. 4 - 1] (lather, rinse, repeat) until you have popped in with the wormhole in front of you (or at the "backend" of the wormhole) thus giving you the greatest chance of making an end run around the next set of defbots unscathed.

And Trigger, alienb1212 (and even Blitz) were Serco when I started testing.

TRAITORS!!!!

I use a Centurion and a Flak cannon. Make your own assumptions. The benefit of my method is that since you don't have to go 15km out in the enemy "second-home" sector, it's much faster. But, it takes skill as opposed to rocket-ramming. So, ehatever.
Jan 03, 2004 SirCamps link
lol, I really have to laugh. I was solo-capping before alienb1212 was playing. (Solo-capping with defenses, that is, either über-turrets or defbots.)

I thought I posted so everyone could exchange techniques and learn a bit about doing it. And yes, I want other teams to learn. I'm not opposed to the dispensing of knowledge. It was really cool to see a relatively new blue guy learn how to cap using my methods.

Archon, notice I stated that the damage you receive depends on how well you dodge those frig blasters. :D
Jan 03, 2004 Archon link
The blasters weren't the prob, it were the 5 defbots ramming right into be when I turned...
Jan 03, 2004 SirCamps link
Then they weren't 500 - 600 meters behind you. :P
Jan 03, 2004 Archon link
How can I possibly get 'em to be? I mean, heck, they have uber-1337 engines!
Jan 03, 2004 Suicidal Lemming link
Their engines have a higher boost than ours, and are more energy efficient.
Jan 03, 2004 Starfisher link
I got them 650m behind me, and tried to turn. A valk apparently can't turn fast enough to fire and survive its own flares/the storm of frig blasters. Three defbots died from ramming each other, three died from my sunflare, and I died from 10 blasts of frigate turret as well as some sunflare splash.

Maybe SirCamps has some technique of making the Valk turn faster?
Jan 03, 2004 SirCamps link
You turn and fire one blast as you turn. You accelerate (but not boost) toward the defbots and fire two more volleys. Then you backpedal and dodge the frigate blasts until the defbots die.

Hooray for over-inflated egos! w00t!
