It's quite annoying, can somebody block this guy?
Jan 11, 2004 Magus link
Which guy?
Jan 11, 2004 Sheean link
Mr. X
Pac Man
A.K.A. (look at the last dot, the real A.K.A doesn't have one)
A.k.A (or something)

It said:
wacka wacka wacka!
The whole fluffing time! I managed to kill Mr. X once, but the others have slipped the iron fist of my anti-spam furry ;)

Your ignore list loves you--kinda. ;-)

Seriously guys, use /ignore.
Jan 11, 2004 Jm262 link
i'm using ignore, but really that's why these people are spamming, cause they know it pisses us off, disrupts our playing so that we have to ignore them. I've watched it, as soon as they think everyone has ignored them they stop either completely or go to another character and keep repeating it. It's highly annoying plus something needs to be done about this. I suggest a spam counter thingy, if someone chats more than 20 in a row they get booted. After 3 or 4 times of doing it in a week or month, they get banned permanently.

yea they came on against and just endlessly spammed, said he did it because it was "fun"

Well, maybe they'll change when they get attacked by an anti-spam furry... :P

Mmm... Typos...
Jan 11, 2004 StarFreeze link
he's doing it again, we really need guides on the weekends... there never ever seens to be anyone around to stop these people. I mean what kind of example are we showing people with this? n00bs get pissed off at it because they don't know about the /ignore command, normal players get pissed off at it because you can't have a normal conversation without someone right in middle of it on some random name come and spam the chat like crazy.

It just gets really annoying, and when people get angry, then the personal attacks come out and what not. It just really makes the communication part of vendetta frustrating.

Maybe make /ignore slightly more server related and ignore an entire user instead of just one of their characters

You see, thats what mute does.

The problem: Not enough guides.
The solution: Get more guides.

The problems with implementing the solution: Where are we going to find more guides? Who can we trust to be good guides? Will we have to pay these guides? If so, where will we get the money to pay these guides if we can barely get enough to fund the development of the game?

Seriously, just deal with it by /ignoring for now. My only issue is that it's hard to tell newbies how to /ignore when spam floods out whatever you're saying. Maybe we need to fortify that "no more than 4 chats per second" rule with a little 5 second "time-out" before someone can chat again after their 4 chats are used?

I'm sure many of the players would "guide" for free, myself included.
Jan 12, 2004 Suicidal Lemming link
The guide system is way to powerful to give about 99.9% of the people playing guide status. This is why there is only one, the system was hacked together and the developers asked someone to do the job.
Why is the system too powerful? They can dev tele to dev sectors. (This is where the devs get there über stuff.), they can permanently mute someone (well, permanent as long as no one undoes it).

In general they can do a lot of things that if given to someone who's mind corrupts could cause TONS of damage.

This is why there is only 1 guide. (Guide isn't a noun)

The most anoying was when he got on the A.K.A. character, it took some time to find out that last period... that was really anoying..
Jan 12, 2004 Ticho link
Just two or three guides would be enough, not 99.9%. :)
I'm sure devs could come up with names of players who can be trusted enough. I'm sure I could...

I'll leave it to the devs to discuss getting more guides. I can tell you it's not a priority at the moment (see: News) and was implemented pretty much as Suicidal Lemming described.

I'm actually online more than you know. For a bit I experimented with making my presence very obvious, but this resulted in:
1) More casual swearing in general due to the adolescent tendency to make a show of defying authority... it's harmless and pointless, but it does detract from the game.
2) Players who know they are breaking the rules tend to behave when they know I'm on.

Lately I've been on under various aliases. Of the ones I can recall (and no longer use): Velveeta, meenie, 901d3n804, skink, Auric, Harbinger, The Orb, GoldenBoy, and so on. I have contacted an average of 2 players a day and have been muting people about every other day recently.

NOTE: I will not contact players using any of those screen names. I will only use the white Guide### text for official purposes. If you are contacted by somebody you don't recognize as a guide, and they can't use the white Guide#### pm text, it is an imposter. Posing as a guide or dev is a mutable offense.

"I'm sure devs could come up with names of players who can be trusted enough. I'm sure I could..."
-I can't. I wouldn't trust myself to be a guide, nor would I trust 99% of the active playing population.

I've been Guide###'d once. It scared the crap out of me.

/me needed to go change his spacesuit.

I had a long chat with FM once in guide mode. It was kinda fun. That's when I got his e-mail to do the interview for the V-C.
