Steps to Binding w/ Oculus Go & HOTAS Flight Stick

Jan 10, 2019 odi0n link
Opening notes is regarding my previous thread with incarnate where I mentioned the binding not working and not reflecting in real-time.

OPENING NOTES:
I’ve figured out how to fix most of my issues.
Turns out, you have to “highlight” the action you’d like to bind with the Oculus Go controller, then press the button on your flight stick, so it can become the that action.

HARD TO FIND INFORMATION:
Dev’s you’re robbing yourself of potential future income.. How?

By not showing how simple this process really is and then pinning that process somewhere “HIGHLY VISIBLE” in your forums or reddit, so lurkers may find it.

I’m only here, going through “digging in the forums” time wasting, because of my passion for space flight brought me here from the iOS days. Oculus Go and Quest is where I will reside - so I needed this knowledge.

That said, would there had been another company (and there will, Things are picking up) with the directions neatly laid out on how to get this running on VR with a Flight Stick - Respectfully, I would had not been here (customer lost).

Everything I am about to place here, could had been placed long before me. Not even the reddit threads have a descriptive on the binding procedure.

On reddit, from what I have run across, in the last two weeks or so I have been researching this, everybody is more concerned with showing their cute setups and only sharing “you need a OTG” knowledge. That’s as far as the knowledge goes.

Anywho,
That’s my two cent on that. Vendetta is your business, your future and I only bring this up as constructive feedback.

DEAR DEV, THERE’S STILL AN ISSUE WITH BINDING:
At the moment, dealing with menus, requires me jumping between my Oculus Go controller and then back to my Flight Stick to play the game. I would like all this functionality on my flight stick.

I binded one of the buttons called “Activate Enter” to flight stick
but nothing is happening when I press the button and I am in side the menu?

I would like to enter menu, exit menu, interact within the menu all from my flight stick. Please advise.

FOR NEW COMERS TO OCULUS GO & HOPEFULLY QUEST)
IF DEVS BRING OVER - HERE ARE THE BINDING STEPS:
First, understand the concept (Highlighting The Action)

Highlighting is done by clicking on the desired action with your Oculus Go controller, once you click on it, it’s highlighted and waiting for you to press your Flight Stick button, so that button you just pressed, becomes that desired action you had highlighted.

(In the following example, I mention keyboard area, don’t let that confuse you, I will guide you to it’s location in the following topic - for now just focus on grasping the concept of highlighting within the example)

HIGHLIGHTING EXAMPLE:
You are searching (by scrolling) for the words “Main fire weapon” which would be in the keyboard area, once you find it, you then highlight “Main fire weapon” with the Oculus Go controller, by clicking on it via trigger button. Once triggered, now the “Main fire weapon” action becomes highlighted, at this point, go ahead and press the button on your flight stick that you’d like to bind to the fire weapon action.

Keyboard, VR Headset Option locations:
Regarding the directions I’ve written below, everything is in the “advanced” section. Advanced is located in the bottom of the menu, which would be the back button on the oculus go.

Here’s my setup below (of course attune to your liking):
I’m using this flight stick:
Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X Flight Stick
https://www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-T-Flight-Hotas-Flight-Stick-PC/dp/B001CXYMFS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1547130852&sr=8-1&keywords=t-flight+hotas+x+flight+stick

Doesn’t matter if you choose PS3 or PC knob selector, they both seem to work fine.

CONTROLS
Calibration Tab:
(These are reflected in realtime, meaning.. just move your throttle and Joystick and you’ll see the sliders move with you, from there you’ll know how to assign them to your liking)

X Axis = Roll (joystick left & right)
Y Axis = Pitch (joystick up & down)
Z Axis = Strafe Left/Right (the two joined buttons behind the throttle grasp and the joystick pivot)
Rz Axis = Accelerate Forward or Reverse [Inverted ✅] (Throttle - make sure it throttles correctly, I had to go in the calibration and mess around a bit, because mine was throttling backwards, when I pushed the upwards)

KEYBOARD TAB:
Flight Assist = JoyButtonA (the top button, above the three on the side of the throttle shaft)

Turbo = Tab Thumbleft / R1 JoyButton4 (That one isolated button behind the throttle grasp)

FirePrimary Weapons = Select JoybuttonA, Joybutton1, Joybutton16, JoybuttonZ (joystick trigger)

FireSecondary Weapon = c RMBUTTON, L1 Joybutton2 Select (button on joystick to far right)

VR HEADSET OPTIONS:
(If you don’t want to control the flight with your gaze aka head movement aka neck breaker)

Go to VR Option (look for it, towards the bottom when you enter advanced)
Once in side VR Options the *Steer with head Tracking* toggle is up top. I chose Off, but it has other options in there, mess around to see what’s your liking.

Hope this helps. Being In VR, with Flight Stick, there is no more “real and immersive way” from a affordable consumer level to experience this beauty of a game. I HIGHLY URGE go try it, in VR you WILL never go back to flat gaming. Peace.
