Combat missions

Hi all,

Just want to say that those combat missions are tough! My license levels are 1/1/0/4/4 (Lite sub at the moment), and the first combat mission available to me is called Help! The Hive queen detected! I used a Centurion with HX plasma cannon in attempt to destroy those 5 guards... Needless to say, my ship was shredded in less than 10 seconds each time despite my attempts to approach the convoy at an angle with F/A off while strafing and stuff. I was told in the chat I can't fail the mission more than twice; so, I'm afraid now, LOL

Another mission I took is Advanced training II, which has the objective of destroying a bot 52 times in 1 hour. I guess, I did something wrong and station guards destroyed me twice before I realized I couldn't undock anymore without being destroyed (couple shots landed in NFZ, maybe??)

Alright, alright, that's a challenging PvE action right here :)

See you around!

(EDIT : I MAY BE WRONG ABOUT THE NUMBER OF TRIES. I checked on vo-wiki.com and it says you can only fail it three times. I remember having it even after that but stay on the safer side and don't attempt it for now.)

The hive queen mission is actually tough for newbies, you should not attempt it until you have experienced the easier assault and guardian bots. A centurion is not a good ship, and the plasma HX sucks. You'll need atleast a vulture mk2 or 3 and neutrons. A revenant with missiles and plasma should also do it.

That mission has a limit on how many you can complete/fail in 24 hrs. You can only do it 3 times everyday. You won't be locked out forever though so relax.

You probably landed a few shots in the NFZ for the Adv. Training II.

PS : This is a good site to learn how to deal with most types of bots.

Hello Aryko,

Thanks for advice! I will definitely wait until I get better ship and equipment for that one. Will try doing the Adv. Train. Ii again today.

It's possible in a free ship with free guns but not easy! Dodging is your best tactic in a situation with more than one enemy. Typically "back rolling" a combo of reversing strafing and rolling is most useful. If I remember correctly I last used a rev with stingrays and plasma HX to first kill the guardian as it closes in and then backrolled to avoid being caught from behind to complete the mission as a starter character. Only issue was finding the queen after o backrolled several thousand meters away 😂

Yeah, I haven't figured out how the back roll or attack roll should look like from 1st person view yet. Just finished Adv. Training II and unlocked the Vulture and received a HD power cell, which I already lost in a battle. Is it a one time unique item or not?

The basic hdpc is actually not that useful; if you manufacture ~10, however, you can continue the mission tree to unlock manufacturing access to the ihdpc, which is its actually useful cousin. You can make as many as you like, if you have the items neccesary to make them.

Backrolling is essentially full-reverse and rolling while strafing, occasionally turning to aim but for the most part just not letting your opponents leave your sight. Good survival tactic with NPCs, just limit its use against living pilots.

Luxen, thank you for advice and tips!

Can you tell me please what is the most precise method of controlling the ship and aim on PC: gamepad, mouse+keyboard, flightsim stick? (for competitive PvP battles)

Honestly, its up to you to find that out. Some prefer mouse and keyboard, but I like a flightstick in my right hand, keyboard on the left, and footpedals for my accel and decel.

Do you use flight stick for yaw, roll and pitch?
